The Stones ripped that song off from ZZ Top. ZZ had a song, "Brown Sugar", on their first album, a year before the Stones copped the title and theme!

according to YouTube, ZZ Top's "Brown Sugar" dates from 1971, the same year the Stones came out with their version (different song, same title).

however, IIRC, the Stones recorded their version in 1969, but could not release it until 1971, due to a Management/recording contract problem that blocked the release of new music until the case settled.

I guess the question is, did either party rip off the other, or were both bands simply "horny for Brown Sugar" around the same time, and chose to express it in similar fashion?

I think ZZ Top's version anticipated Mia:

my Google research shows that the Stones recorded "Brown Sugar" in December, 1969, but did not release it until April, 1971.. meanwhile, ZZ Top recorded their "Brown Sugar" in 1970, released in January, 1971.

depending on your POV, you could say ZZ Top got wind of the Stones' song before others, and copped it. or you could say the Stones recorded their version, heard ZZ Top's in early 1971, and decided to piggyback and release their own version.. maybe Jaggar and Richard weren't sure if the song would go over well, but decided it would work, since ZZ Top had released the same title and theme a few months prior?

and maybe I'm making much more of this than it deserves.

Jtbc, I don't know if that is an unfortunate metaphor, or a brilliantly conceived response!

what I do know is today is Fuck Mia Friday. ironically, the Catholic Church (of which Mia is a devoted Member) tells Congregants to abstain from eating meat on Fridays, but the Vatican has never ruled on eating pussy.. as such, Mia is a Friday delicacy that should be part of your Friday dining plans.
