Hi,

I would like to know if there's a transparent way for us as members to know if we can clear our access logs/PMs/personal info edit histories. I am not sure how vBulletin works and would like to know if mods/staffs can clear these details for me. I've deleted my PMs (even though I had no personal info) but I can not say as an end user if that deletes them entirely or performs soft delete (by turning on some sort of flag on the database). Same goes for access logs on the forum software database and other web server logs.

I think this might be important for all of us as members to be able to see such data and clear them permanently.

The mods that volunteer on here are not the IT department. Try sending a request like that to websupport@eccie.net

And it took 3 days to get a simple response.
That is what the issue is in my opinion.

ECCIE either can disable an account or guest an account depending on the reason for leaving. Posts, reviews, and other such material is not deleted. In your USER Control Panel, you can remove a number of things like signature, bio info etc.

If you deleted your PMs they are gone. I deleted by accident my most recent PMs a year ago... and, even as an Admin with programming privileges, I could not recover them... nor could the programmer.

So, your choice is to either disable or guest your account.

Bottom line, this new Texas law is aimed at shutting down or discouraging websites, scaring members to leave. The members are not what they want... it is the site itself... which will be interesting with the first legal challenge.

Excellent synopsis Lea.
The way that is written is at web sites but can also target ISP's which could very well put the telco, broadband, etc. outfits at risk.
