Rodger Rodas was an experienced professional racer. he screwed up on the street and lost it. on a track he probably would have survived .. and Paul Walker who was also a capable racer. when the Fast and Furious series came out, the actors took lessons from professional stunt drivers and they all said Walker was by far the best driver. way better than Vin Diesel.
to blame the Porsche was bullshit. that car, while not the most balanced Porsche in terms of pure racing, is perfectly safe on the streets if you don't exceed the limits of the road. Rodas took a chance on the street and it cost him and Walker their lives.
