Thank you proud mama for being a mother of a Service member.
It's tough for the family as we deploy to places to do things...so the thanks goes right back to YOU!

If it wasn't for their sacrifices. We wouldn't have the freedom we have today. To be able to celebrate Independence Day. Nor any other day.
Yes, I'm a proud military momma. Over 10+yrs of active duty service. I'm proud of my adult child. It's not easy. But I wouldn't have my freedom. If others weren't sacrificing theirs.

Thank you.
I did 20 years of Active Duty, mostly on subs. Then both of our sons went into the US Army.

No, I don't think so.
The Political forum is for yelling, screaming, and being completely irrational.
Sane, calm discussions have no place there. Hopefully this one stays as it has been, civil and apolitical.

If I may, Kaly.
This forum is a (main discussion forum).
About anything within legal limits and drama free. Anything related to politics. (Has it's own forum).
Honoring our service members and Vets is far from political. In fact. I would pray they would not be lumped into anything politically related.
Their sacrifices, that allow us OUR freedom. Is not political.
While I appreciate your concern about said proper forum. This is the correct forum.
I would hope that from here on out.
We don't need to broach the political tit for tat controversy in this thread.
Now, back to honoring our loved ones..Our friends and neighbors. And those we've yet to know. Whom served and are serving in our military.
There need be no holiday. To appreciate you!
I'm proud to know you!!

Thank you, MC. I was in the middle of replying when I saw yours.
I do not understand the apparent concern K has about this thread. Appreciation for people in the military is not a political issue for most, though some try to make it so.
The reality is, military members are many of the most apolitical people around, as they take very seriously the civilian control of the military. I would say that most senior officers I served under when I first was commissioned did not vote because they did not feel it was right to participate in politics even to that extent (though many became active after they retired).
I see it as no different than being thankful for paramedics, firemen, and anyone else who risks life or sacrifices wealth to serve others.
Not often, but occasionally, there is a thread here that expresses those feelings, of expresses sympathy for victims of a tragic hurricane, fire, etc. Sometimes other brief "off topic" posts appropriate to the moment. I see absolutely nothing wrong with them, it is part of what a community does.
As I said, I do not understand Kaly's apperant issue with it. I do suspect there is something more personal there, something that hurts. I am sorry about that part if true.

Kaly is European. I'm guessing she sees the US and US politics in a totally different light than you or I. And while I understand the intent of MC's post, it can be construed as stepping close to that line. I won't go any further, but just to say that maybe someone outside our culture may see things differently.
