Currently Medicare on average pays less than costs for many services. For example, hospitals receive approximately 87 cents per dollar of costs for Medicare patients and make that up with the larger private care reimbursements.
Moving everyone to Medicare for all with anything resembling the current Medicare model would put many of the hospitals out of business immediately and many more would eventually close. Doctors reimbursements would also suffer in the current Medicare model if adopted to Medicare for all.
