I have a question, and I truly don't mean to discredit R.M., but why does one have to use a professional photographer? I mean I have an awesome camera and I would do it for free. Maybe asking the question shows how much I don't know about it. But is it really that complicated? Or is it what makes someone a professional photographer is that the have all the proper equipment?

It's not just proper equipment. It's training, innate talent when it comes to getting the right shot, the time energy and effort into even basic editing. Knowing which lens to use and the lighting necessary, reading your client and their needs, being able to coach said client on how to make adjustments to their poses to best suite the aesthetic they're seeking. Amongst a multitude of other factors.

Similar to any other professional trade job. Just because I have similar tools to a plumber or mechanic and comprehend the mere basics of the job doesn't imply that I can justly provide the same level of quality services they can.

At the end of the day it's not as simple as pointing the camera at a beautiful woman and shooting the shot.

yeah. no. first, these girls have no shortage of dipshits with cameras trying to talk them into this. what they end up with is shitty pics that do nothing to help their business and some creep trying to slide up on them for some kind of exchange. not saying that's you, but they will naturally assume so.

perfectly said. being a pro has very little to do with having a certain kind of gear. anybody with money can have that.

I'm not everyone's cup of tea. I'm an amateur and I have fun with the ladies I shoot and make them feel comfortable and sexy. That's my goal.

I worked at Glamour Shots many years ago, so long ago we used film and airbrush and those tools. I have done some shots for ladies that I got to know some. I tell them straight up that since I don't have lighting and backdrops and such that the results won't be as good as they could be, but they will be a whole lot better than cell phone selfies. I also give them the choice of having me edit the shots or to give them the sd card at the end of the shoot so that they a 100% certain the photos won't end up anywhere else. It's been fun when I have done it, and the ladies have been happy with the results.

I am that dipshit with a camera. But the shots I take are also going to be better that a cell phone shot. I have included photo shoots with many of the girls I've seen for my own personal collection only.
I have noticed the majority of the photographers that do the boudoir shoots are women. Probably because of the comfort level most ladies would prefer a female photographer. If it is your business, you would have to leave any sex out of it to be professional, and as a guy I know it would always be in the back of my mind. And the ladies know that too.
But all that aside, is photography really that difficult that any knucklehead couldn't buy the necessary equipment and set up shop? I mean what kind of training does one really need?
And good for you R.M. I really would just like to learn more about it.

photography is like any craft....a certain part of it depends on mastery of the tools and that's certainly teachable. but GOOD photography is only teachable to a certain extent. the simple fact is many people simply don't have an eye. and, many viewers simply can't tell the difference. no offense, but i'm betting you're in that group.

put another way, herb ritts...were he still alive....would produce art with a cell phone camera while most people with a 1000 dollar camera would produce junk.

I wouldn't disagree with you JD. I am just another jerkoff with an expensive camera. I will more than likely stick to shooting providers who are willing. It does add another element of fun. And every once in a while I get lucky and say, "Damn, that shot turned out pretty good." I have noticed too, it definitely has to do with the model and her ability to be comfortable posing. Some girls love the camera and some girl are just doing it make me happy. And it shows in the photos. I imagine that is what R.M. means by making them comfortable. I am going to continue to research and learn just because I enjoy it.

mad respect for your attitude about it. few people are objective about their own sense of aesthetics or knowledge. and you're right....the girl herself has a lot to do with how images turn out.
