Default Questions about going to Juarez / MP’s

Hello everyone. I know this is my first post and I’ve been a member for a long time (used eccie on and off) but I’ve been shy and I want to start contributing in both El Paso and Juarez (but more Juarez for now since it’s more affordable). So I have a few questions and concerns about going to Juarez.

1) My Spanish. Being Asian-American, I can speak Chinese but not Spanish. I took a few classes in Spanish at UTEP for major requirements but they say if you don’t use it you lose it. I could say a few simple phases and I am still trying to learn Spanish. I know someone said that it shouldn’t be a problem since I can use hand gestures and it wouldn’t be the first time they meet a non-Spanish speaker.

2) I don’t know why, maybe it’s me being Asian-American again, but the border patrol (BP) always ask me questions when I walk back to El Paso (from the Santa Fe Bridge). One time when I went to see a doctor in Juarez, I had to show the BP my prescription. Last time when I went a few weeks ago (I just walked up the main street, Av. Benito Juarez, to the tunnel and back to get myself acquainted to Juarez), a lady BP asked me the reason why I went to Juarez. I told her “I just went to visit” and she let me pass. But what if they go deeper and ask more probing questions like “what did you do there?” Should I be the honest guy that I am and tell them I went for a massage? Would I be in trouble? I’m afraid if I just tell them I walked around downtown they might be suspicious.

3) Transportation to Genesis or Stoya / other places. From researching the forum posts and other sites, I was forewarned not to take the taxi since they jack up the prices and also at the MP. So to take an Uber from the bridge to the MP, I just walk a short distance away from the main street where the bridge is at (due to traffic) and then use the app, right? My biggest issue with transportation is what about coming back from the MP to the bridge. Do I call Uber out by the street in front of the MP and wait there? Is it safe for me to do so? Should I call Uber while I wait inside the MP or the parking lot at Genesis and only come out once my ride has arrived? I heard some MP’s (like Genesis) offers free transportation. Is that still available? I am planning to call the respective MP at least once right before I go for my safety and to confirm the price (which I believe is 450 pesos at Genesis and 500 at Stoya + tip). I hope me speaking English wouldn’t be an issue and I know Stoya has an El Paso line.

Also, what do the locals call that bridge where you walk across in downtown? Is it the Santa Fe bridge? The Paso del Norte International Bridge as what google calls it?

I’m sorry if they are dumb questions but they are legit concerns of mine. I am planning to visit Genesis or Stoya sometime soon. And I also want thank the members here for their reviews / advice in El Paso and Juarez. They helped me a lot. 🙂

I would keep my ass on this side just in case President Trump closes the bridge. HAHA

Lol. But as a US citizen, I should still be able to get back.

I've never had an issue with not speaking or understanding Spanish. Most of the folks in Juarez have a basic English vocabulary, and if you run into any issues Google translate generally gets the job done.

That's good to know. And thanks for the tip, maybe I'll get the Google Translate app.

Currently with the situation going on with immigration I would recommend for you to go. But later on, I recommend for you to go to Genesis. The people that work there speak English and they are very nice. The bad thing is that you are going to be taken advantage if you go somewhere else.

Yeah, I’ll wait until it dies down. And I’ve always wanted to go to Genesis and I see that it’s the most popular place in the forum so far.

Thanks for the heads up Barca#1.

Good questions, I have same concerns as a white American, but I like taking risks haha.... so I’m following this thread! I too was wondering about transportation. And was also curious about buying viagra or cialis in Mexico and bringing it back accord the border if anyone has any advice! TIA

I was actually planning on going to Genesis today but when I tried to call them, I received an automated message in Spanish that says (I think) the phone is out of service. And when I checked the review of Genesis on Google, the most recent review by William Perry 2 weeks ago was worrying. He gave it one-star and said: That’s a set up. Dont go. I used both Google Voice (since my phone plan doesn’t cover Mexico) and Whatsapp to contact them.

So I changed my mind and decided to go to Stoya instead. Unfortunately, very similar things happened when I tried calling them. The only difference is I could hear a dial tone. I used both their US and Mexico line from eccie and their website.

I decided, in the end, to acquaint myself more with Juarez and went there alone. It was interesting. The streets were packed and there were performances at the plaza. I also scouted for Uber pick-up spots lol, since the main street is jammed with cars trying to reach the bridge. But when I came back, boy, the lines were long, well pass the half-way point of the bridge today. I waited like 2 hours just to get back. A Border Patrol officer told me there was a special situation where they caught a large group of migrants and they had to get help from other local districts to process them. I could actually see them when I was waiting in line. There was a lot.

I will continue to take baby-steps and visit Juarez more often to get over my fear of being questioned by BP and to increase my confidence and comfortability with Juarez (since I can’t speak Spanish).

Going to Genesis is one of the best decisions that you could take. All of the girls there are awesome! Going to other massage parlors are a hit or miss. PM for more details.

Slinking,

I have been to Juarez many times, more than I care to admit, so i will see if I can alleviate some of your worries.

1) I speak ZERO Spanish, never had a single issue. The ladies know why you came, the only issue is, they will try to up charge you, otherwise, no worries about not speaking Spanish.

2) Border Patrol doesn't care why you were in Juarez. Yes, it's their job to ask but they really don't care. I am about as white as you can get and they always ask me why i went to Juarez as well. My answer is always, "cheap beer & easy women", unless it's a female agent, thenI just say cheap beer. No matter what you say, they are not stupid and they know why you went, they don;t care and even if they did, they have no jurisdiction over what you do i Juarez. You could say i robbed a bank, they can;t do anything, you are an American re-entering your own country, they can;t stop you.

3) Taxis are your friends. they know how to get to every amp, yeah they will up-charge you a bit, but, it beats walking and with the exchange rate, it's only a few bucks. They'll even wait until your done and take you back to where they picked you up.
