Shared Responsibility: Better Than Single-Payer
https://www.the-american-interest.co...-single-payer/
shared responsibility; that is the system most european countries (except britain) use to run their health system.
interesting article.
it goes on to detail how each country's health system is set up.
it details what the american system is. It notes that the American health system is run like a cartel. the design appears to be a deliberate method to keep prices high.
the prices and salaries are out of whack as compared to its European counterparts
Notes that Europeans have better outcomes than U.S. does.

If Europeans have better outcomes, why is Mick Jagger getting his heart surgery here?
He could use the English National Health System since he is a limey.

IB corrected me on this. He's still Brit.
In that case, I think he prefers the American system to the one payer/medicare for all system that Britain has. and Brits have worst outcomes than the U.S. and Europe.
I mean, why should Jagger have to wait in line for 6 months to 1 year to fix his condition.

Why is it that you can pay here in the US with cash and save over going through insurance.
The reason is when a third party is involve the extra hands in the pie make it impossible to keep cost down.
I no longer have dental insurance and when I did the insurance was billed $225 for basis cleaning...now that I pay it by myself it is $140 for the same service...that is a 60% increase with insurance!!

Those kind of weird outcomes show up all the time in a big bureaucratic system.
I blame liberals.

Yes, it is definitely a quirk in the system due largely to the bureaucracy and the overhead. A lot of it started with the older Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement schedules of getting paid 80% of what was billed so billings then got inflated to increase reimbursement amounts. Lately, it's gone down to more of a standard reimbursement schedule for Medicare/Medicaid which ends up setting base cash prices and also what get's billed to insurance.
I don't know the circumstance of your dental insurance, but if it was a participating provider in your plan regardless of what was billed, the reimbursement was probably far less. If not participating or your plan didn't have participating doctors then it probably wasn't a very good plan and you should have dropped it before.
But in regards directly to the OP, yes, the US system is currently screwed up with a hybrid government control approach for part of the market and free market profitable companies for the rest. Obamacare tried to take more of that into government control, but was certainly not the right approach.

We've discussed this before here and on the other boards:
The American Medical Association is the most powerful union in America.
The doctor's prescription pad is a basically a checkbook you can write to yourself. It won't get fixed until we can legally buy most prescription drugs over the mail internationally.
The AMA and drug companies are in cahoots with the Federal Govt. Remember Obama said twice on national TV that there was 200 BILLION dollars of Medicare fraud ANNUALLY. He later was advised to back that number down to 50 Billion.
Thanks for the article Dilbert.

When AOC, Tlaib, and Omar take over and turn the US into a Socialist Shithole, where will the rich people in the US run to as a tax haven?

As far as comparing the US to countries in Europe, you do have to stop and consider population.
None of these approach 327 million:
Germany (81.4 million)*
France (66.4 million)
United Kingdom (65.08 million)
Italy (60.93 million)*
Spain (46.42 million)*
Ukraine (42.85 million)*
Poland (38.49 million)*
Romania (19.82 million)*
When I had my motorcycle accident, the price of the procedure with insurance was going to be $36K. I negotiated a cash price of $17k. Insurance makes it more expensive the same way student loans inflate the cost of college. The payee knows how much is available from a 3rd party, so they charge almost that exact amount.
I can see us doing a health care system that provides for basic services: check ups, vaccinations, etc, doctors office visits, and preventative services. But not coverage for catastrophic life style events or conditions or diseases that arise from lifestyle choices. Why should someone else have to pay for my challenging the laws of physics on a motorcycle? Why should someone else have to pay for what happens to a person who chooses a destructive lifestyle?
