I have paid up front twice and that was over 20 years ago. I got ripped off the 2nd (AND LAST) time. These girls are under some pressure from LE and scared of being caught or winding up with some asshole, I think a deposit just makes them more likely to flake and run with your funds. Her "know it all" attitude about "everybody knows about deposit" would be the final red flag for me.
