Stay away from the worst BBQ places in Dallas:

Dickey's and Sonny Brian's.

What's a must eat in Dallas?

Pecan Pie at Emporium.

You can't come to Texas and leave without eating a slice (or two or three) of Pecan Pie:

https://emporiumpies.com/locations/bishop-arts

And the Tortilla soup at the Mansion on Turtle Creek, served only at lunch time:

https://www.rosewoodhotels.com/en/ma...ion-restaurant

https://www.rosewoodhotels.com/en/~/...2819.pdf?la=en

Also the 2 Texas staples:

chicken fried steak at any locations of http://www.normascafe.com/about-us/

and

fried chicken at
Mike's Chicken (no website)
4234 Maple Ave
Dallas, TX 75219

Damn!

If you are going to hit some of these places we recommended, we need to hang out with you.

LOL!
So awesome. Thanks again. Looking forward to some good eats...

That's interesting. I noticed on their website it says their Pecan Pie is made with Brown Sugar. Every other recipe I've seen uses Corn Syrup.

Last question though. So I'm also a pretty big steak and burger fan too. We've got the usual Ruth Chris and Morton's back home, and I've been to some amazing spots in Vegas too. Gordon Ramsay's Steak and CraftSteak in MGM to name a few. I got to say, the Rib Cap steak at Gordon Ramsay was awesome. Do any of the Steak House's here in Dallas offer a Rib Cap steak? If not, I can get a pretty decent steak back home, unless something here in Dallas is going to be mind blowing. Other than that, any good recommendations for a solid burger? Once again, thank you all that have responded and are helping me to pack on the pounds.

We also have another thread about Burgers:

https://www.eccie.net/showthread.php?t=2331251

We have many great steak houses here in DFW and I have been to many of them.

I have never seen a Rib Cap steak on the menu.

Everyone has the same things pretty much:

a ribeye, a t-bone or porterhouse, a filet mignon, a strip, a prime rib, a tomahawk or a cowboy steak.

I'll tell you where not to go: double eagle steakhouse at legacy west. was the biggest let down I've experienced of late, right from appetizers, sides and the ribeye which had like zero marbling...biggest waste of money in the metroplex imo

I never been to that one, it's owned by Del Frisco but I will second it because I took a couple of friends to lunch at Del Frisco Grille in the Shops at Legacy, which is just next to Legacy West on the east side of the Dallas North Tollway.

We all each ordered their 16 oz prime ribeye at $45 each, we asked for all 3 steaks to be grilled medium rare and they were all tough and gristly.

The manager said I don't know what happened. But next time y'all three come in, I will comp you a free appetizer.

There won't be a next time.

The service was also horrible too.

The waitress we had was pretty, typical Frisco/Plano white girl, but she took our order and we never saw her again until she came back to bring us the check after we spoke with the manager about our steaks.

Someone else brought us our drinks, our appetizers, our salads, our entrees, refilled our drinks and then cleared our table.

She never did a checkback within 3-4 minutes of us receiving our appetizers and then again of us receiving our entrees to make sure they were all cooked to order and that all our individual orders were complete.

This was at 5 in the afternoon on a Thursday before the beginning of the dinner rush and we were only one of 2 tables in the whole place.

My friend paid by credit card but he left the tip in cash: $20.

Which I think she should had gotten no tip and given that $20 to the Hispanic bus boy who brought us our food and refilled our drinks and cleared our table.

On the credit card receipt he signed, next to tip, he wrote:

0

He wrote the same thing on his customer copy and he also took a photo of the merchant copy he signed.

He told me later when he looked at his bank account after the charge was completed, it was $40 more.

So the waitress wrote a 4 next to the 0 to give herself a $40 tip.

He called the restaurant and whoever was the manager he spoke with was pretty unhelpful and unconcerned with the my employees are honest and they wouldn't do that attitude.

BUT how about you come back in and I comp you a free dessert with your meal?

He took the case to his credit card company with the photo of his receipt and also to Del Frisco Corporate with the threat of going back to the restaurant with the police during their busy dinner rush to confront the waitress and have her arrested for Credit Card fraud and theft.

Del Frisco Corporate ended up refunding him the full amount, almost $267 including the $40 tip and the $20 cash tip.

Ever since this happened to him, I have been making a habit of taking photos of all the merchant copies of credit card receipts I sign at restaurants and anywhere else as long as the receipt has a line for tip.

I also started paying cash at restaurants.

You hand the waitress or waiter your credit card and they disappear.

They can be taking photos of your credit card including the back of it with the 3 digit security code.

Of some are even more sophisticated and have skimmers and scanners on them to swipe your card.

There has been cases of service industry servers who did so and use the number to buy stuff or have a new card issued to them:

Question

Does anyone know where in DFW I can find one of these?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monte_Cristo_sandwich

the original way using ham and Swiss cheese between 2 slices of bread and dipped in batter and fried and then topped with powdered sugar.

Not the different variations using turkey instead of ham and using American cheese (which is not good for you, it's not real cheese) instead of Swiss cheese.

I think the Old South Pancake House has 'em.

That's crazy! I've eaten at Del Frisco's in Vegas and it was good. Service and food were top notch, but sorry to hear that story. It's too bad because there are a ton of honest, hard working restaurant industry employees ( I used to be one of them ) who just love what they do and enjoy making others happy. Sucks when idiots like that ruin it for others.

They don't. I don't see it on their menu.

Thanks, anyway.

I Google Monte Cristo Sandwich Dallas and found some Yelp and other lists results but when I went to each of the restaurants listed on those pages, either I don't see it on their menu or some of those restaurants have closed.

One of them that was mentioned is the Cheesecake Factory.

I go there all the time. I know they don't have it and I just looked at their online menu and it's not on it.

When I lived in Houston there were only 2 places that had it:

JoJo's and House of Pies.

JoJo's closed in the late 80's.

House of Pies is still open and its still on their menu.

I used to go to House of Pies just to get a Monte Cristo and a slice of pie.

In 30 years I lived in Houston and been to House of Pies almost 100 times, I have never had anything else on their menu.

Read through that thread and am officially hungry now. Liberty Burger is looking pretty good. Those onion rings look good and so do those stuff Jalapeno popper things. Sides play a big part of it too.

Jed’s grill has the Monte Cristo for breakfast until 2 pm I think. Never had it but remember it on the menu.

Yes they do and looking at the photos, it's not made correctly:

https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/jeds...?caption=monte

From the photos, it's burned toast, then they put the ham and gouda cheese (wrong cheese) in it and throw it in the fryer real quick just to melt the cheese.

It's supposed to be bread (not toasted first) with the ham and cheese in it, dipped in egg batter, then fried.

Thanks.

These are photos from House of Pies.

https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/hous...?caption=monte

You can see the difference.

You need to re-read the Cheesecake Factory menu. It’s on there.

Also Humperdinck’s and Wings N More serves them too
