I am going to write this comment and pray no one takes it wrong. It is written more for myself as a reminder not to give up on locations based on no prebooks. If someone else finds help in it awesome! With that said...
As one of the ladies that has been to MIdland/Odessa. I have tried staying in midland and ended up losing Odessa guys and vice versa. I found a middle ground hotel and did just fine.
Basic marketing shows if you keep your rates decent, count on one or two days to cover hotel and meals for four days, then everything else that week is gravy. The next time you go to town, it will pick up.
Run this as a business until you get into a session and you can build something that will last. Too many live town to town and struggle to stay afloat.
I personally make sure to do my books, pay my wage taxes, and file taxes at the end of the year. This is so I don’t end up with no way to prove income and will have disability available should I ever need it someday. Plus I will be eligible for social security when I get there (if they don’t bankrupt that avenue).
When you work this way, you never worry about making smaller amounts in a town. Most consider it a lost town if they don’t clear a large amount of money a month. I consider a town a lose if I have to pay for a meal or don’t make just my expenses.
I will tell you counting on prebooks is a crap shoot. People cancel and NCNS all the time. Most are so sick of the flaky book and don’t show that they don’t pre book anymore. Trust in a higher power to give you what you need. (I said that more for me than anyone else.)
