Eagles ,Jackson Brown, Meat Loaf , Boston, Billy Joel A lot of great bands singers .
Tran, will you stop with the negativity? probably, but not until I respond this time
the Eagles.. great, yes they are.. I wish they had packed it in after Frey died.. how much money do the others need, Henley in particular? and why add Vince Gill? of course, the Classic Rock crowd gets what it deserves if it keeps willing to spend triple figures for tickets to see partial bands in hot stadiums.
Jackson Browne.. talented, great writer.. but his moroseness makes it difficult for me to listen to more than 15 minute slices of his music.
Meat Loaf.. he has been riding the Bat out of Hell wave for 40 years.. take away that one album, and you have very little remaining.
Boston.. I can almost say the same.. take away the debut album, and there's a marginal band.. Brad Delp's voice was artificially enhanced in the studio, in concert he needed a female singer on the chorus, to get near the rendition of the studio sound.
Billy Joel.. a hit-making machine, but I can think of no major artist who is as devoid of soul and passion in his vocals. excellent writer, but he's had some big misses: like "we didn't start the fire" and "goodnight Saigon".. forced lyrics that try to sound important.. he connected with "Allentown" though, that is probably his best song.
I suppose ‘’promote’’ was a little lazy on my part. While the Beatles did not publicly ‘’promote’’ Hendrix they and the The Stones Eric Clapton and other big names were all fans and promoted Hendrix inside the the London music scene.
Damn Chung , way to deep for me ( Old Jackson Brown 1975-79 before wife killed herself) Boston I greed But one great record better then 10 so so , Billy old stuff also , point a lot of great singers record back in the day.
Oh and I'll put gas on this fire The Beatles in my opinion were very overrated ( only 2 songs any good Yesterday/ Penny lane) The Stones /Who /Styx lesser Triumph old Stewart, Rundgren cars. So many didn't get the airtime they deserved , just saying

she died in 1976, so I understand where his morose lyrics emanate.. I like his more uptempo stuff.. running on empty, boulevard, etc..

just 2 good Beatles songs? you are a tough nut to please! the Stones and Who got plenty of airtime?? although I agree that overall, they are better than the Beatles.. even the Beatles stuff I like is basically solo songs.. Lennon, McCartney and Harrison were writing, playing, singing their own songs with barely any input from the others.
Rundgren has some great stuff, but he's too experimental.. lots of duds.. it doesn't help that one of his most cherished songs, is that stupid "Bang on the Drum".. he sold out, IMO, by playing that on the Ringo and friends tours he did.. Hell, he gets 3 songs to play, and that is one of them? please..
I will give you early Rod Stewart.. great stuff, enormous talent.. ironically he became a big star after he pissed away that talent.. just goes to show that popular music is rarely based on musical worth.
you can't have a musical discussion without mentioning Prince Rogers Nelson. He's one of the most influential and talented singer, musician song writer in the past few decades..

I know technically you can't compare the two countries, since the US is way superior if you take into account all genres, e.g. country, jazz, rap, but I love to hear other people's opinion and I even get introduced to artists I've never really listened to but have come to appreciate.

by the way, the Time and Morris Day were quite talented, and had they not been so associated with Prince, I think they could have taken off more than they did.

much of the Beatles' early work is crap. generic pop songs. they did get better later on, in part when they realized they were so popular they could do whatever they wanted.
while critics fawned all over the Beatles, they detested Led Zeppelin. the fans didn't care.
and if you think being the most popular band wasn't important to many of these groups, it was. not all of them, but many did. When the Beatles disbanded, the new "king" was thought to be a fight between the Rollings Stones and The Who, both of whom had to toil in the shadow of the Beatles for years. And all of these groups and many others knew each other. none other than Pete Townshend hates Led Zeppelin as a band simply because they eclipsed both the Stones and The Who as the top rock band in the world.
Pete knows all of the members of Zeppelin, is friends with them. yet he hates the band just because they become more popular than The Who.

in terms of Rock and Roll, whatever your definition of that is, England by a Mile.
there are a few interesting examples of American bands covering English bands and doing it better. here's two clips to show this.
the first is the Yardbards doing "train kept a'rollin'", also referred to as "Stroll On". this is actually from the Movie "Blow Up" and you might notice Jimmy Page is in the band with Jeff Beck. The Yardbirds formed originally with Eric Clapton on guitar, then Eric did what Eric does, left to do something else. John Mayhall and the Blues Breakers if i recall. then he went on to Cream. one thing about Eric, he never let himself get stale or stuck in any one thing. when Eric left the Yardbirds, he recommended Page to join, but Page had a studio contract and couldn't afford to get out of it. So Beck joined. then Page joined him in the band.
now with just Page on Guitar
there are live of course so to be fair here is the studio original. with just Beck.
now Aerosmith's cover, which i consider better than the original .. was a huge fan of Aerosmith back in the day, later on, not so much.
and since some may claim this is unfair given Aerosmith had two guitar players (Joe Perry, Brad Whitford) so did the Yardbirds for a time with Page and Beck.
Pete has an enormous ego, but I cut him some slack.. he wrote the single greatest line in Rock and Roll History.. "I hope I die before I get old", when Page and Plant were writing down lyrics and licks from old Blues songs. that has to chap the old Geezer.
