You've got it backwards. The conservatives have reflexively struck down legislation that restricts free speech. Scalia was one of the best free speech advocates and will be sorely missed.
Just watch how the Supreme Court votes come down on the Janus case challenging mandatory union dues to support political speech you disagree with:

It is embarrassing watching the 4 liberals bend themselves into pretzels trying to protect a Democratic party constituency (government employee unions) by insisting that forced support of speech is not exactly that.
Also watch how the Supreme Court votes come down the Reproductive FACT Act law passed by California (where else!). The law basically forces crisis pregnancy centers operated by pro-life groups to provide counseling and information about abortion, instead of just counseling regarding adoption or keeping the baby and getting financial help.

Of course, California does not require abortion centers to provide counseling on adoption or keeping a baby.
Even the liberals might get this voted right. At least two justices questioned California's imposition of pro-choice counseling on people vehemently opposed to abortion.
So, NO, liberals are no fans of free speech. Or have you not been watching what is occurring on campuses across the nation?
