Ah, that is a surprisingly good Italian restaurant! I like going a few doors down for the cheap shrimp cocktails!

In general, I really like the old feel of downtown. But the best is still on the strip.

Yardbird has the best fried chicken ever bt a bit pricey.

I would recommend the fried chicken. The short ribs were more like a pot roast though. The best fried chicken fried chicken but I would pass again on the short ribs.

I know a lot of people who are big fans of Yardbird. Can't say I'm that impressed myself. I think Popeye's and Church's have better fried chicken. And I know that by anyone's standards Rapscallion and Street's Fine Chicken here in Dallas have better chicken. Some of the sides are nice, especially the peas and okra. But frankly, I think Yardbird generally is overrated. And I'm generally a fan of the food at the Venetian. While it's not worth a special visit, Noodle Asia across from their Poker Room is pretty good.

$13 for 3 piece mixed fried chicken with 1 side and 1 biscuit???

http://streetsfinechicken.com/forestlane

$21 for 2 pieces mixed fried chicken with greens and 1 biscuit???

http://dallasrapscallion.com/dinner-menu-2/

That's absurd!

Not entirely. Rapscallion you get a really nice, albeit American wine list with your chicken. But nicer restaurants with nicer service, wine lists, etc. cost more. You want a chicken shack -- and I've eaten in some really good ones -- you need to find a chicken shack. Frankly, great chicken shacks is a subject for a entire other post. But off the top of my head, I'd say Willie Mae's in New Orleans; Ezell's in Seatle; Chicken Shack in Baton Rouge, La.; Roscoe's in L.A.; Hattie B's in Nashville; Bobwhite in NYC (not just chicken, truthfully, though); etc.

But the wine is not included with in the $21 price of the chicken, is it?

It's extra.

Therefore it still come down to what I've originally said:

$21 for 2 pieces mixed fried chicken with greens and 1 biscuit.

Too much $ for that little food which for someone like me who can go to the Brazilian Steakhouse for $50 and eat for 3 hours, that is not even an appetizer.

No, it’s not included. But some of the overhead that supports a wine program and other amenities are priced into the food items. If you don’t like it, don’t eat there.

I thought babe’s was average. Street’s fine chicken was okay but not great.

I agree Yardbird is a bit overrated but the chicken is legit. The price is absurd though. Half a chicken is like $27 and there are no sides with that. But the chicken is great imo.

This thread has good away from a few quick recomedations and has become a worthwhile go to resource. I'll add a few more of the places I go more often than others.

Chengdu Taste in Las Vegas is very good. It's kind of on the back side of Chinatown. I don't think it's as good an example of Schezuan as LOS or Chada Thai is for Northern Thai, but that still leaves lots of room to excel.

http://www.chengdutastelasvegas.com/

Very extensive menu. I can recommend the Chicken in Hot Chili Pepper, Whole Fish cook in Hot Chili Pepper, Geiger Scallion Lamb, Hunan Spicy Lamb, Hot & Spicy Pork Belly, and Duck in Beer Sauce.

There is often a wait, but it is usually fairly short. They provide a pad and those waiting organize and keep the list. Lots for friendly chatter among those waiting, who are often from all over the world. A great place to compare notes with others on where to get quality Schezuan in other cities. Prices are quite reasonable, too.

District One in China Town is good, too. Not as much to my taste. A bit more cosmopolitan/Asian Fusion sort of place. Emphasis on Vietnamese food. But still good and quite inventive. Emphasis on sea food.

http://www.districtonelv.com/

Another place if you like seafood and don't mind taking a long schlep away from the strip or downtown and heading way west -- quite a ways past China Town -- is Other Mama. Reservations recommended. But incredibly fresh and inventive seafood. More expensive than District One. But quite good.

Twist by Pierre Gagnaire, in the Mandarin Oriental is pretty extraordinary. But it is VERY expensive. If we're getting into this luxe Three Star price range, which restauant you pick becomes a very personal choice. I haven't eaten at all the ultra luxe places in Las Vegas. But the ones I have eaten at Joel Robuchon (not Atelier du Joel Robuchoen which is much more reasonable), Twist, and Sage, I prefer Twist. I think it's a tad less formal and the food is equally inventive. And just more to my taste. Also, I think the wine list is a bit more interesting and has less of a markup.

https://www.mandarinoriental.com/las...-gagnaire/menu

I haven't tried it yet, but I hear wonderful things about Black Sheep. I plan to eat there on my next trip. Vietnamese. I don't know where it is, but I'm told it's a long way from anywhere you are likely to be. If you're dining alone, your cab fare will likely be as much as your dinner tab.
