Memphis to STL is about 4 to 4.5 hours driving depending on where you start in Memphis, and where your destination is in the St. Louis area.
Memphis to STL is basically a straight shot north on I-55 to I-270/I-255 in the STL area. From there, you may be routed north on I-270 if you're staying in West County/North County/St. Charles, routed east on I-255 if you're headed to the Metro East area, or straight on I-55 into South County, South City, and Downtown.
Far from being a good break on the way, Paducah is a significant detour off the straight route from Memphis to STL (a quick look at Google Maps suggests that the detour to Paducah would add another 2 hours drive time to the trip). I don't know how much hobby activity is there, but if there is any it's not very visible here or on USA Sex Guide. You could post an inquiry in the Kentucky forum here to see if there's any interest if you really want to take the scenic route.
