Default illegal immigration drives farm automation

https://www.yahoo.com/tech/robot-pic...073738504.html

farm automation, instead of illegal labor, a natural response to a crackdown on illegal immigration. better now than later.

Actually, when Caesar Chavez started to spread the unionization of farm workers from South of the border the mechanization of farming started in full swing ... farmers began to "co-op" harvesting equipment and operators....

.. although if a farmer is heavily reliant on illegal workers, then the farmer may well move toward mechanization in anticipation that he will lose his labor pool to importation.

And that is exactly why manufacturing jobs aren't coming back to this country....

http://www.msn.com/en-us/money/marke...z&ocid=U221DHP

Now that he's seen how a Chinese iPhone factory operates, Zeng doesn't believe that Apple (AAPL) or other companies will be able to build competitive factories in the U.S., no matter what politicians want them to do.
"The first thing I can think of from a labor perspective is that the wages are unacceptable for American workers. So, in the factories, I was getting paid about 3100 yuan, or $450, per month. I don't think American workers can accept those kind of wages based on living conditions and prices here," Zeng said.
"Even if they relocate factories to the U.S. they'd replace workers with robots," Zeng said. He said Pegatron already uses robots to apply cameras to iPhones, and to drop batteries into the devices. Robots, Zeng said, are more precise than human workers, and precision is particularly important for those two components

Not unique to farms, it is happening to all aspects of the economy. Manufacturing is losing more jobs to automation that foreign countries

Does that mean that EKIM, assup, Lube and the rest of the reach-around crew should worry about their " jobs " picking dingleberries ?

A while back, I was watching The Discovery Channel, and they were visiting a state of the art Auto Manufacturing Facility, Audi, I think.

It was a marvel. The body assembly, the drive trains, the paint, all performed with State of the Art Equipment.

But you noticed something. Very few people. Practically none. The entire process, except for a few humans walking the floor, was totally automated.

As for the farming, sure, machinery is replacing the human pickers. But, somebody has to build, and maintain the equipment. Those are where the skilled jobs will be.

.. and operate the equipment. Depending on what is being harvested the product is hand sorted.
