Usually they try to let dead heading crewmembers board first. They must have been late on their inbound flight. If they're on and seated that alleviates the prob most of the time.

900 Million and dropping....ROFL!
Not to mention a lawsuit from the passenger. The suit will be settled probably to what amounts to pocket change for them but the continued PR nose dive will be fun to watch.
Was it the police that draged him off? I don't believe an airline has the authority to physically remove someonexcess themselves. They would need to call police to do it.

I have been hearing this talked about on the radio then watched the video. I don't know what to think about it but both parties get a share of the blame. If that guy is a doctor both he and the airlines have a reputation to protect and neither did a good job of it.
I wouldn't want that guy being my doctor.

I'm not a lawyer, and doubt Shyster Jon gives a shit, but I'm pretty sure protesting verbally with the airline staff is not a crime, but when the law shows up, you can quickly move to a felony by resisting arrest.

The doctor didn't do anything tho. He just wanted to leave him there and send his wife home. That is pretty messed up. The guy paid for his ticket. He didn't do anything wrong.
The security should have some sense as to something being wrong and not doing it.
The airline should just send the crew home on a different flight or raise the amount of money to give up the seat. Someone would have taken it eventually. That guy can now retire with the money he will make in the lawsuit.

In my mind the passenger has little fault. He bought a ticket, boarded the plane and had expectations to get somewhere (for whatever reason). Airlines, United in particular have a history of heavy handed reactions to their self induced policy problems. Since 9-11, they consider themselves a quasi extension of law enforcement. They could have done 20 things to solve the problem and they chose to call Aviation security. Aviation security fucked it up from there.
Bethune was blaming the passenger from the beginning and the CEO hasn't helped much with his tone-deaf response either. Frankly, I'm more aggravated now than when I first saw it because of United's response. And now they have started character assasination of the passenger, WTF people! I have a trip to Fla coming up and if I get bumped, I'll be pissed too. Especially if it is because the airlines are trying to get their employees somewhere.

here is the character assassination..
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...t-gay-sex.html
even if every morsel of the story is true, it has nothing to do with the fact that a near-Septuagenarian was dragged off an airplane, bloodied by airport thugs who feel powerful since 911.. you would think the Doctor had yelled "Allah Akbar" and whipped out a switchblade.

Fuck United. That's some major bullshit. They overbook because they expect somebody to not show. Fuck them. Raise the price enough so that somebody else volunteers and not force somebody who has already boarded to get off thru ZERO fucking fault of his own. This kind of bullshit REALLY makes me angry. If given a choice I will never fly with those asshats. This guy was not at fault. He bought his ticket, he was allowed to board, THEN they pick him at random to get off..what a load of shit.
