For the people who loved and saw Muhammed Ali (His CHOSEN name) as the champ, speaking negatively of him will not change the way they see him. It might make you feel better to speak ill of him, but it won't change a thing.

That's like saying Elvis Presley was a womanizer. I didn't personally like Elvis so I don't give a shit if he was a womanizer. His fans could give a shit either. The same goes for Ali. If you don't give a shit about him, why would you care if he was a womanizer and draft dodger? His fans certainly don't care.

Elvis answered the call and he served...unlike Clay, he did not believe he was better than us average grunts...Clay's refusal only meant that some other mother's son got called in his place....As I said in a previous post, our few encounters were cordial (only one of which was one-on-one; by no means were we close and I would not be surprised if he didn't know my name the next day); I don't think it easy to dislike the guy. I liked him...his unguarded opinions seemed to be mostly in line with my own but I doubt any of his public utterances originated with him...he was Elijah Muhammed's puppet. The more mature Ali seemed to have realized he had been a useful idiot. As with any other human being, he had merit and he had flaws...it's just as useless to beat on him as it is to put him on a pedestal...the only person I can remember who was a pure flaw was Bud Adams, absolutely without merit. Oops, almost forgot OJ Simpson...those fuckers are evil, Ali isn't/wasn't. He was just wrong on the obligation to serve his nation....him, along with a whole lot of other shirkers I've had to try to be polite to over the past 40-50 years. Because they shirked I will never hold any of them in high regard.

And who here gives a shit if he was a womanizer...that's hilarious.

That was Cassius Clay if you remember
Do you think his race was treated really good by all the wonderful "white christians" (whom btw murdered black people for being black.) Ever watch "Ghosts of Mississippi"?

Muhammad Ali was never treated bad by vietnamese people. And he stood up for what he believed.

I was fortunate enough to see him fight twice in the Astrodome. Ernie Terrell and Cleveland Williams. Ernie Terrell refused to call him Ali and Ali gave him the worst one sided beating I've ever seen, becoming the undisputed Heavyweight Champion. Watched him training several times in the Astrohall before the Houston fights.

I cannot compare Ali to fighters before my time, but he is the greatest in my lifetime.

R.I.P. Muhammad Ali.
