condoms are the norm in the escort world for both client and provider safety! when it became the norm who knows? but I would fathom that their use became much more prevalent when diseases such as hiv/aids became common knowledge in the mainstream!

There was a website i came across a few years ago and had stories of escorting/sex in the roman times. Some of the stories were strange by modern standard but believable. It has since been taken down.
There was a story about escorting in london in the 1890's on that site. It stated that it was the height of escorting. It stated that over 1 in 10 women were escorts (33% full time and 66% part time)

But anyway, i read earlier that soldiers were given condoms during ww2. Condoms might of been too pricey for common folk till the 60s-70s

The tipping point for condoms in general in American culture was during the great depression when the US Army began to issue them to soldiers, a result of War Department studies after WWI where they estimated they had well over a quarter million cases of venereal disease casualties among the troops in Europe. Millions and millions of soldiers and another World War later, most state laws against selling any form of contraceptives had been repealed, and usage was much more acceptable to the whole culture with all those G.I.'s back in civilian life, aside from religious issues.
