I'm curious. What does Network Television offer anymore that is a draw?

Although I have cable in 2 locations I don't think I have sat down and watched anything on television "live" in probably 8 to 10 years.

Digital Recorders and Time Shifting was the beginning of the end for me followed by the evolution of streaming and downloads.

The end result is I also haven't seen commercials in years either. I was sitting here wondering what the heck even gets advertised anymore. I got to the point where new shows that might be of interest to me just get noted and I wait till mid season or season end and then binge watch.....

I highly doubt I am the only one. I would imagine it's actually a huge number of people

The buzz about new shows lately seems to be "originals" made for the smaller networks.

So how does ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox etc survive?

Everything I watch is chromecasted from Netflix, Amazon Prime, or complete series DVD.
Haven't seen a commercial or depressing news in 10 years.

I torrent GOT's; usually available by 11pm EST. That's my TV watching.

That $80-$100 saved on cable is a quickie/ hhr session ea month!

There are several syndicated primetime shows I do enjoy watching weekly. Sports is readily available, be it college football, Pro, Olympics, X-games, etc. I enjoy late night talk shows (Jimmy Fallon followed by James Corden). I also enjoy many of the weekly PBS shows.

However, I can't say that network TV is my only viewing pleasure. I'm lucky to have a couple buddies who love downloading movies & cool shows like Walking Dead & Game of Thrones, so usually have something new to watch every week from them.

Growing up, my family was in the habit of muting the TV and chatting during commercials (now that I'm thinking about it for the first time ever, does anyone else do that?), as this was before DVR technology. I had no television through college or graduate school, and the only times I've had it since, I did so in an effort to keep myself at home, as a cable subscription was cheaper than going out and seeing live music six nights a week, and I had a thesis to write. By then, also, HBO and Showtime were really worth having, and the only way to get them was through regular cable.

I haven't had broadcast TV in my home for a few years now, and really the only thing I miss is the movie trailers. I never know what's coming out. When Nightcrawler came out, I heard the title floating around, but I thought it was another X-Men movie. It wasn't until Netflix suggested it that I was finally able to see a film as kindred as Kill Bill.
