Small and private socials are probably the safest bet. It seems some just can not stand for others to enjoy the hobby anonymously without fear of reprisal from a vindictive personality type. So, be careful in that respect.... I used to go to socials and met some of my best clients at these, but these types blew it for me, just knowing what they are capable of doing to others lives.
I watched a movie on Netflix recently....V for Vendetta, and it reminded me why I no longer participate in those. It's about an anonymous fella who adopts the persona similar to Guy Hawkes. He creatively manages to do away with the oppressors he has his sites on. A true gentleman, even if deadly.
So, if you are a controversial type of fella, socials might not be for you. Even if you are not, some just don't care and will take down whoever they can. These folks are not Like V, but more so, V wannabe's. There is no altruism or "for the greater good of all" when they do these things. Their only concern is seeking vengeance for some personal slight, either real or imagined.
That being said, there are altruistic types around as well, so any wannabe's might wanna beware, as well. ijs
