Just a sad story all-around. No one has a kid and thinks, "oh, my kid with a bright future will go to college and then get brutally raped and murdered", or "oh, my kid will bounce around foster homes, become unwanted and homeless, and then become an infamous rapist and murderer at 17 years old".

That sort of stuff, not this extreme, happened at UT a lot while I was there. I rolled my eyes when PHD students would defend these drag rats and their life style choices. I'm sorry, but they harassed freshmen fresh out of high school who are thrust into reality.

Yes, I feel bad for homeless people, but not when they drop out of college to live that lifestyle. APD has been cracking down on the homeless population near UT, but apparently not enough. Imagine walking back to your dorm with a pack of beer. There was no doubt some homeless people were going to harass you. Sad story, hopefully UT will get it together after this incident.

There's no defending someone who chooses to become homeless like that...but Austin is okay having a homeless center right in the middle of the tourist section of downtown Austin. It has become straight-up scary driving through 7th and Red River.

If there's anything I've learned from watching "Making a Murderer" is that everyone should truly be innocent until proven guilty. APD has not been without its faults in the past and to me it seems oddly unsettling how quickly they apprehended a suspect after releasing the dark footage. Yes, I know he was found with her bike and bag, but that doesnt necessarily means he did what he's being charged with. If he did do it I am all for whatever sentence he deserves. Everyone seems to already wish this guy a good butt fucking and death. While this indeed is infuriating, Im personally going to try my best to hold my judgement until more evidence is shown and I hope this guy gets a fair trial.

I used to walk by that area on campus almost everyday for 2 years. Truly sad!!

He had a stronger family unit as a younger kid

The foster care system wasn't so fucked up

he got the mental help he needed a long time ago

The high school he walked away from before coming to Austin had better watch on kids so they couldn't leave randomly during the day...

Don't get me wrong I am NOT defending him..he needs to pay for taking that sweet girls life... but after reading about his life growing up ..a lot of people along the way have failed this kid greatly
