Cool Crawfish!

Hello all! This is for any true crawfish aficionados - Can anyone tell me the difference between crawbugz that are boiled live, and crawfish that are boiled frozen?

Thing is, I'm tired of going to places that supposedly serve crawfish that's been boiled live when I believe they have been boiled frozen. Frozen boiled crawfish, I believe, the tail meat is darker, has a rubber texture and you don't taste the juice as much in the tail or when sucking the head. Also I think the tail sticks out straight while live boiled crawfish the tail is curved.

Am I wrong in my theories? I've done research online but can never get solid answers.

Thanks all

They are more rubber like and just kinda nasty all together. Fresh is the way to go, lots of Chinese places put them frozen comy craws from China.

Crawfish and noodles, still my favorite spot to eat em.

If the boiled crawfish isn't curled up in a ball like a pill bug, don't eat it.

If the tail is strait, dont eat it. Throw it out.

If they're all that way, go somewhere else.

The only frozen crawfish i know of are tails only and usually used for entrees.

The frozen ones are mostly from China. This is how you get restaurants that serve crawfish out of "our" season. They are normally much smaller and light on meat. Don't waste your time. Not to mention that it's always in all of our best interest to support your local farmer...

Straight tails are not always bad, but there should not be many.
If the tail is not firm and easily extracted they do not know how to cook mud bugs.

Crosby has two places that are great, the first one changed names last year and has a full bar, the second use to be BYOB with ice chests at all the tables but haven't been there in a while. Best I have found in the area and I live down on the Golden Triangle Area.

I have to disagree. $5.95 a pound at the Crawfish Shack is too expensive unless you only eat a few pounds and most people I know eat 5-10 pounds at least. At Carlos Beer Garden in Webster, $20 for all you can eat on Thursday and Sat. nights. That is what I am talking about. Alexis, maybe I should give you a holler next time I go.

BB's Cafe gets my vote for best crawfish, I've been to crawfish shack in Crosby and it's nowhere near as good as BB's.
