I've been working in NY for the last 15 years and know my way around pretty well. Actually found this post by searching for providers in NY.

Hoboken is the first stop leaving the city and last stop going into the city. You can get a nice hotel there for far cheaper than in the city and its very easy to get to by public transportation and driving.

Dorthy, I would love to see you visiting up here maybe we could finally meet.

Hoboken iv been as well and NJC is cheaper to stay and the pathway is best to get around over to NY

To each their own, but I can't imagine why Staten Island would be a prime place to stay while touring New York City. I've had luck staying in Midtown East. If you're interested in staying in one of the other boroughs because you'd find it to be cheaper, I would think Brooklyn or even parts of Queens would be a better bet. I've actually considered hosting in Brooklyn as there are lots of brand new luxury boutique hotels in super cute neighborhoods with nightly rates that are much more accessible than many weathered Manhattan hotels.
