BBQ downtown

I have a business lunch tomorrow and picking up a guy at a downtown motel that wants BBQ. He's been (a loved ) to the Salt Lick but I don't want to drive all the way out there. But on the other hand I don't want the long lines. I've stayed away from the downtown BBQ scene so far. Where should I go? Blacks?

Go to Blacks across from the Palmer center. In my opinion, it's better than Salt Lick.

Or,maybe Ruby's near UT, or Stile's Switch out on N. Lamar just south of Justin Lane intersection, or John Mueller's. Isn't he still on the east side?

John Mueller Meat Company, Smokey Denmarks, and Browns BBQ are some really authentic places with out the authentic Franklin style waits.

Salt lick is for tourists, if he's a friend, or anyone you want to impress, AVOID Salt Lick..

The only ones I know of downtown are Iron Works and Lambert's. La Barbeque's a little east of downtown.

Ah ain't been thar in a while but Ah used ta like House Park BBQ. Nuthin' fancy, just a l'il neighborhood dive wif good BBQ. Way back inna day, Jimmie Vaughan an' uthas frum tha Fab-yew-luss Thunnerbirds wuld drop in frum time ta time.

We went to Black's. Short line, slightly out the door. The restaurant was not over crowded and we had a picnic table to ourselves out on the patio. We both had the fatty ( as apposed to lean) brisket and beans. It was wonderful. Thanks to all for their suggestions.
