Job/work sought
Providers and Fellow Hobbyists:
For the first time in 40-plus years, I've been (pick one): dismissed, replaced, let go, fired, canned, down-sized. It really sucks but I'm like millions of others in this cold, cruel world and there are hundreds of other things worse.
These career options are not available:
1. Dallas Cowboys quarterback (too old)
2. Dallas Cowboys owner (too poor)
3. GOP presidential candidate (too smart)
4. Full-time hobbyist (see No. 2)
5. Male escort (see No. 1 and No. 3)
I'm posting here to widen my job search net. Let's just say that I work with words for the past four decades and if it needs communicating, I'm capable. You can reach out to me via PM and I assure there will be complete discretion. I've lost my job, not my mind. And I definitely don't want to lose anything else.
Thanks, all.

I'm sorry you were let go. That's a terribly uncomfortable place to be. I do hope you find something you enjoy that pays the bills.
Just an idea, but every hooker jokes about writing a book someday. You could get on board as some hooktard's "biographer" and let her float you until you find a real job again.
Silver linings, babe. Silver linings.

It sucks, but printed media nowadays is winding down.
Whatever you do in the future, good luck.
Meanwhile, writting a book may be a good idea. That is a dream of mine.

I've often thought about writing a book on the escort business. Not sure if it would sell. And the book market right now is absolutely brutal. But I think that you would have a great deal of cooperation from various providers. And I think it would be a very interesting subject. Night Timer was doing such a book, but I never heard if he finished it or even tried to publish.
And while it's certainly not a real job that would get full time employment, I certainly think that a number of girls could use a copy writer for their ads. If you charged $20/wk., I can't imagine that you couldn't get a least one extra customer to a girl for a well written ad, as opposed to the illiterate swill that so many post now. Not much, but every little bit helps.
One other thought for a part time gig, and this is one that might turn permanent. I've been working on web sites for a couple of new ventures. We have had no shortage of people who are good at coding, web site design, search engine optimization, etc. But we needed some people that could do some literate, high quality content for the web sites. Many of the tech guys are close to functionally illiterate when it comes to quality writing, much less persuasive writing. We finally ended up hiring an English/Marketing major part time. We'd give her a outline, some meat to put on the bones, but then she'd write it up. Then we'd edit to make sure it was technically accurate for our fields. Ended up working well enough, but you'd think that these web developers would be hiring guys to write content left and right. They certainly need to. You might talk to a hand full of them and see if they an steer work your way on their web sites, and give them a cut or your hourly.

Let me echo that thanks. I'm in my 7th month of an unplanned sabbatical or as I've been calling it my search for a new work home. I've had plenty of free time but limited funds to play.
I'm a call center guy so if you know of anyone needing a call center manager or higher, I'm your guy.
I'll check out the links.

Just because the printed media is winding down doesn't mean the electronic media is. That is the big market these days. Problem is that everyone is doing it....just many are not doing it well.

In the interim, you can always go the technical writer route for banking institutions. Just do a job search online for "technical writer" and include "bank" or "banking". Not the most exciting job, but it pays the bills.
