Default Sex workers are happy?? Whaaaat??

This is a link to a great article that talks about a study done in the UK that found that the majority of sex workers are actually happy people. I love my work, and hate the stigma and public perception that all men are dangerous criminals and all women are helpless victims. Definitely check this one out, and if you're comfortable, repost it somewhere! This one illuminates some truth!

Also, did you know that there's an International Sex Workers' Rights Day? I swear people are just making up holidays now.

It would be nice to decriminalize and eliminate the social stigma of sex work. It would be safer for all and just think of the tax revenue it could generate.!!!

That is wrong-headed thinking.

They have plenty of tax money to waste now, they don't need any more.

I was just kidding or maybe trying to inspire the Kansas legislature.

Decriminalizing is coming as long as the ptlrovider is over 21, and licenced. Society is becoming more lenient. Who though marijuana would be legal in States 10 yrs ago. Its coming soon.

Yes, there will be more wasted tax revenue. Bad thing though, the hourly rates will double!!!!!!

I agree with OP and think this is a great post.

Although, decriminalization would help independent providers and johns the research I have found in countries where prostitution is legal there is strong evidence that there is an increase in victimization by pimps, brothels, and traffickers and due to the legalization it makes it nearly impossible for police to intervene and because of that fact alone I'm not sure I can support it being decriminalized. It's not fair to want something for society as a whole bc of my own personal interest. It must be overall beneficial to most and I can't support slavery or children being hurt.

Kinda torn on the subject at this point bc for independent providers it could be liberating and empowering but I achieved that as the law currently stands. There's pros and cons to everything, I suppose.

There is a big difference between LEGALIZING and DECRIMINALIZING. when you read something and quote a statement, make sure you check which it is referring to. LEGALIZING prostitution in European countries has actually had a decline in sex violence in women DECRIMINALIZING will sometimes still exist where paying for sex is illegal...just selling it is legal. Sarah,. Sex slavery is a totally different thing than providers who choose at some level to be prostituting and it attracts an entirely different population of people/clientel. Sex slavery is just that, slavery, and they are usually underaged. They attract a different kind of man....a beast. A man that has no regard for the well being of others and probably wouldn't even participate in the legalized adult prostitution business. I just don't think true legalizing of prostitution has anything to do with sex slavery, especially of underaged victims.

Sarah, I mean no disrespect to you and my comments were not directed at you. I respect your rigjt to an opinion and to share it. I have just met some people that didn't realize the difference in the 2 terms and wanted to point out the difference. Sorry if I made you feel bad.

miss sarah, please don't pm me your opinions about this subject until you change your inbox settings so that people are allowed to pm you back. that's a convenient way to argue, and forces me to write you in a public forum. moderators, please forgive me if I break a rule here but her inbox settings force me to respond this way. and sarah, i stand by my statement that under NO circumstances are men who have sex with under aged and/or enslaved girls anything but a monster. there is no reason to research their motives before labeling them as you say because there is no justification for that. if prostitution is legalized and run by the government, the government is not going to give lisences to people who use enslaved underagaged girls. that may continue to happen on the black market but the demand for that is not affected by legalized adult prostitution because it is a separate entity of people. as for the effect legal prostitution has on violence against women, statistics can always be manipulated and arranged to support the stance of the person doing the research. 47.5% of all statistics are made up on the spot. if men can legally buy sex, from clean beautiful women, why would they go rape women and risk going to jail?. i've been to the red light district in amsterdam. believe me, for $40 american dollars, a man can get sex with attractive woman who is required by the government to be checked for health standards and they are protected by police. why would a man want to rape a civilian girl and risk going to jail when it is available to go purchase it? and if anything, maybe some of those child rapist will go purchase a legal adult woman instead of child.

I heard a fantastic quip this weekend regarding this subject: "Paying for sex is illegal unless someone is filming it." I about fell off my barstool laughing at the perfect illogical hilarity of it. Porn? Sure. No camera? Sorry, you're going to jail now!
