More horseshit from the "know it all" progressive.

The key word in what I wrote is "MAKE" you buy it. NO AMOUNT of advertising or grocery shelf arrangement can force you to buy something you don't want or need.

Those things may make the product look more appealing and increase your likelihood of buying some things, but none of it MAKES you buy it.

Displaying metal tongs next to the barbeque sauce in the grocery store may make it more likely that I will buy the tongs because it is so convenient, but it does not MAKE me buy them. I still have agency and can ignore it while continuing to flip hot dogs and steak on the grill using a fork I already own.

I still have agency, so if I buy the tongs it is because I decided they flip food better than a fork and are worth the extra bit of money.

Progressive like Galbraith and you like to pretend that the masses are powerless to resist advertising because it gives you an excuse - no matter how flimsy - to try to control people's lives, in particular, their purchasing decisions.

But it is never big progressive government that is the threat. It is advertising right? And people buying stuff that liberals don't think they really need, right? That's the real problem in the world, isn't it?

Your last paragraph is probably the second stupidest thing ever said on here. Jesus Christ has nothing to do with it.
So YOU have no impulse control nor mental discipline when you watch a commercial or walk into a store. NO WONDER the libs can so easily brain wash you mental defective liberals ! An easily lead and duped eunuch ! Madison avenue must be glad to capture THAT demographic !! You're just pissed that you have to work extra shifts at the 'holes to be able to afford to buy all the goodies that Big Sir demands to stay with your cum guzzling ass ! Starting with new sheets !

A "progressive" swishy walks like woomby does and a Nazi goose steps. Woomby "straddles the fence" and does BOTH. It all depends upon who he's trying to coax into a stall as to which one he does at any given time.

Are you referring to the 8 years where Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D., N.D.), Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd (D., Conn.), Barbara Boxer (Sen D - CA), Former CEO of Fannie Mae and adviser to presidential candidate Barack Obama, James A. Johnson (D), Former CEO of Fannie Mae, Franklin Raines (D), all of whom are listed as "Friends of Angelo", along with Pelosi, Franks, etc., opposed in some manner more regulation and greater oversight of the home mortgage industry, Ekim the Inbred Chimp?

The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing." Whatever makes you sleep at night. As for progressive government vs advertising, that's a false dichotomy. It assumes there are only TWO things wrong in the world. The masses ARE powerless to resist advertising. Why do you think we have so many fat people. And that's just food. It extends into every area of our lives. You are very, very ignorant. I don't want to control people's purchasing decisions. I merely pointed out that people buy lots of shit they don't need. That's a fact. Why do companies spend billions of dollars on ads, if they don't work? They have science showing that advertising does in fact work. You should really educate yourself on it a little.

No chicken dick, what I was referring to is you and your ilk will not take responsibility for anything. If some bad bills are passed when it is your turn to govern, it is never changed, as you would like to still piss and moan, and blame someone else sizteen years later.

The "ilk" -- the "Friends of Angelo" -- that didn't take responsibility for anything are your "ilk", Ekim the Inbred Chimp:

Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D., N.D.), Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd (D., Conn.), Barbara Boxer (Sen D - CA), Former CEO of Fannie Mae and adviser to presidential candidate Barack Obama, James A. More straw man bullshit.

The only ignorant person in this thread is you.

I never said advertising doesn't work. Products don't sell themselves. Advertising usefully spreads information about products. I wouldn't know there was an iPhone 6 unless I saw it advertised, because I don't hang out in Apple stores. But the advertising doesn't MAKE me buy it.

Once again, the masses can and do resist advertising, no matter how many times you say they can't.

Shitty products are advertised just as much as good ones and the shitty products get ignored all the time.

The Edsel? Betamax? Any Adam Sandler movie from the last 5+ years?

I guess the masses can resist that stuff right?

Obesity? God you are dumb. People are fat because food is cheaper than ever before in human history, portion sizes are ridiculous big (especially in restaurants), and the food is loaded with sugar, salt, and fat, which makes it tasty.

People aren't eating shit food like Taco Bell because they can't resist advertising. They eat it because it is cheap, quick, and tasty. People give in to the short term pleasure of tasty junk food despite the long term health risks because people love instant gratification, not Taco Bell commercials.

Under your dopey theory, we could get everyone to switch to eating steamed kale on a bed of tofu if we just advertised it enough. Go ahead, try it. See how it works.

You have ZERO understanding of human nature. Typical for a progressive. You keep dreaming about how people ought to act in your socialist utopia and not how they do act in real life.

I've never seen so many words that say absolutely nothing. Bravo. Human nature? I've forgotten more about it than your sorry brain will ever know. It all speaks to control, you fucking idiot. The same lack of control that let's them give in to taco bell is the same lack of control that leads them to buy shit they don't need. I never said they couldn't resist ANYTHING, you disingenuous turd. Any Adam Sandler movie from the last 5 years? He's still making movies, isn't he? Somebody is watching that dreck. The advertising makes you WANT it. It convinces you that you NEED it. It's obvious you have very little knowledge in this area.

" I've forgotten more about it than your sorry brain will ever know." So, Professor Pete R. Puffer, did you get all that " learnin' " ,as the Arkansas hillbilly's say, on your knees working the 'holes all over Arkansas ? What kind of advertising do YOU do to get your "clientele" into Talleywackers and your "franchises" at the truck stops ? Might you be using a picture of the lips from the Rolling Stones album to entice more of your mojado gente to bring their jalapenos for you to "wash" , puto ? You know, since they " no habla Ingles" !!!! Just don't use any pictures of you after you've been given your " facial" treatment of " ropey loads" !! It might scare off your gente .

Lying sack of shit.

Your entire argument above was that advertising MAKES people buy stuff they don'
t need. And that was the essence of capitalism. Buying unneeded stuff because we cannot control ourselves.

Now you are changing to advertising makes some people "want" stuff that they don't really need.

You lost. Game over.

Advertising does make people buy stuff they don't need, by making them think they need it. Goddamn, you're fucking stupid. The essence of capitalism is choice. This abundance of choice has created a consumer culture obsessed with ownership. We want what we want and we want it right now. Even if we don't really need it. Sometimes we're able to control ourselves, sometimes we aren't. You act like it must be an all of nothing proposition, where we control ourselves all of the time or none of the time and that's just stupid on its face. I didn't lose shit, homey. Game on, motherfucker.

Speaking of stupid, you can't even keep your lies straight, Womby.

Here is your quote from Post #30 at the top of the thread:

And here you are in the post above:

So, the essence of capitalism is choice and, yet, it is incompatible with freedom. Is that your story?

Game over, fraud.
