Even you can see that you perpetuated the situation. All this could have been avoided had you answered his first text, "I'm getting ready, we're still on at scheduled time".
Remember, the OP just drive 90 mins to see you, the last thing he wanted was to get stood up. Maybe he was nervous and needed some reassurance...
