and maybe Vitamin C?

Good news
I am confused

Why do people get heart attacks?
high cholesterol? high fat diets? being ugly?

too little Vit C/lysine?
I am wondering now.... after I read all about Pauling Therapy(linus pauling)

read the reviews of his book

Lipoprotein(a) - Lp(a) - cholesterol molecules were found to contain "lysine binding sites" that are responsible for the deposit of plaques on the walls of arteries when they are deficient in collagen, which results from too little vitamin C intake (arterial scurvy). Arteries deficient in collagen deterioriate and their walls become weak. Plaques are the body's way of "patching" these failing arteries to prevent them from rupturing. This occurs because of something called the "lysine binding site" on the Lp(a) molecules circulating in the blood. When this damage occurs to the tissue of the artery wall, it exposes the amino acid
lysine within the tissue. Because Lp(a) has a natural attraction to lysine, it sticks to the lysine in the damaged artery walls and creates a natural plaster "cast" that shores up the arteries. Without this repair mechanism the arteries would rupture or leak blood and cause death from this chronic form of scurvy much sooner

So I take 5-10 grams of vit C and ~5 grams lysine a day
I see no harm, water soluble and Lysine is just protein..

more people saying megadosing Vit C is proven worthy
recall that The current Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for vitamin C, 75 milligrams for males,
http://www.realthinktank.com/2010_02_15_archive.html

NIH investigators assert 5 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables provide about 200 milligrams of vitamin C and that the diet should be sufficient to reach optimal blood levels. Vitamin C pills are not required, period.

What about the half life?

This is not so, says a new book, Ascorbate: The Science of Vitamin C,* written by Drs. Steve Hickey and Hilary Roberts, University of Manchester graduates in pharmacology in England. The book exposes the many flaws involved in the establishment of the Recommended Daily Allowance for vitamin C, and the revelations are alarming.

An epidemiological study published by the NIH in the year 2000 showed that adults whose blood plasma concentrations exceeded the 73.8 micromole level experienced a 57 percent reduced risk of dying from any cause and a 62 percent reduced relative risk of dying of cancer when compared to adults who consumed low amounts of vitamin C (28 micromole). I have found the following to be hard to swallow, it's not what I've been taught in school/work, and reading stuff on the internet is not how I want to be taught somehting so vital to life.
It seems humans lack an enzyme, L-gulonolactone oxidase.
The loss of a single working gene prevents you from making your own vitamin C. The negative mutation of the so-called GULO gene has been well studied in both human and primate genomes. If this negative mutation could be corrected, most people wouldn't need to supplement vitamin C

so we take vitamin C, right?
The RDA for vitamin C is ~90mg.
That's enough to prevent scurvy
Scurvy is a disease that occurs when you have a severe lack of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in your diet. Scurvy causes general weakness, anemia, gum disease, and skin hemorrhages.

so it seems that 90mg VitC does a lot.

In the 1930s, Dr. Claus W. Jungblut discovered that only primates and guinea pigs were susceptible to scurvy as well as anaphylactic shock, pulmonary tuberculosis, diptheritic intoxication, a poliomyelitis-like viral infection and a viral form of leukemia. None of the vitamin C synthesizing laboratory animals had susceptibility to these diseases.

Correcting the GULO mutation requires more vitamin C than is commonly recommended by medical and governmental authorities. Animals produce much more vitamin C in their bodies than what we can obtain from the meager dosages often recommended for humans. Adjusted for body weight and under ordinary conditions, animals have been found to produce between 3,000 mg and 13,000 mg of ascorbic acid daily. A goat under stress may produce over 100,000 mg of ascorbic acid daily. As these animals make their own ascorbic acid, the molecule enters the blood stream intact (directly from the liver or kidney).
http://www.vitamincfoundation.org/

Gorillas in captivity are susceptible to the same set of diseases and we share other conditions with these primates that are not common in other species (e.g., cardiovscular disease [*]). Linus Pauling elucidated in his Unified Theory of Cardiovascular Disease paper, and in a video-taped lecture, that a large consequence of our genetic deficiency is our tendency to develop cardiovascular disease; a primary cause of death. (See: PaulingTherapy.com)
The reason your doctor has never heard about this from trusted sources is because this low-cost therapy would bankrupt every major hospital in the USA.
"Did you know that bypass surgery (in which a blocked coronary artery is replaced by a clean artery obtained from the thigh) is one of the biggest growth industries in the United States? Would it surprise you to learn that this procedure brings in more money to metropolitan hospitals than does any other type of care? In many cases bypass surgery accounts for 30 to 40 percent of a hospital's total income." - Stephen Cherniske (DHEA Breakthrough, 1996)
So I'm taking 7+grams of vitamin C/day and 7+grams lysine
I don't know if this "pauling therapy" will prevent me from getting heart disease(both grandpas died from it) but I fail to see harm AND after I take the VitC/lysine I feel good

Even webMD admts Vit C :Hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis). Taking vitamin C by mouth seems to decrease the risk of artery hardening. Vitamin C also appears to slow the rate at which artery hardening worsens. More research is needed to understand the effects of vitamin C intake from the diet or supplements on this condition once it has developed.

I dont like mercolal but after reading

Book by irwin stone(online) http://www.vitamincfoundation.org/stone/
Tom Levy : Stop America's #1 Killer http://www.amazon.com/Stop-Americas-...1310368&sr=1-4

and
practice medicine without a license:
http://www.amazon.com/Practicing-Med...hout+a+license

I like hbow mercola easily explains what vitamin C does to the body.

Linus Pauling claimed that specific non-toxic substances called Lp(a) binding inhibitors taken orally will prevent and may even dissolve existing atherosclerotic plaque build-ups.
This work is based on at least 2 Nobel Prizes in Medicine and the efforts of countless medical researchers. The theory and conclusions offered represent the final contribution of an American scientific giant.
The fact that you have not heard about this discovery in the mainstream media is disturbing. It speaks volumes about how powerful interests can somehow suppress vital information that would be detrimental to their financial interests

In the mean time watch your sugar and carb's intake and try lowering them also any kind of extra sugar intake (soda, candy bars, etc.) Best is small amounts spread over the day to keep sugar levels even and eliminate spikes! Remember INSULIN going back to the liver is the controlling factor in cholesterol production!

Considering the post count in this thread is nearly all just your 'research,' is this site acting as your personal blog?

Nobody is reading your manifesto meathead.

I don't think your diet and weightlifting is working well for your mental health. Maybe too much fish oil?

But, you probably look great in a tank top, and that's all that really matters.

When things are given free, they have no value but this is a free book
that really bugs the hell out of me
Why Animals Don't Get Heart Attacks but People Do,

www4.dr-rath-foundation.org/THE_FOUNDATION/About_Dr_Matthias_Rath/why_book.html

it's on amazon

http://www.amazon.com/Animals-Attack...ustomerReviews

is this shit true?
oh the gist of the book is humans dont get enough vitamin C. humans/primates/guinea pigs cant make vitamnin C,
other animals can and make grams/kg of bodyweight/day
it's thought that this is why humans/apes have heart attacks/CAD
because vitamin C is needed by the body form and maintain connective tissue, including bones, blood vessels, and skin.
When there is no VC to make collagen, and that's what arteries/veins are made out of, when the body goes to repair them(like around the heart/neck where there is high pressure. the body uses a fat called Lpa, that is part LDL, and that LDL is sticky and more shit sticks to it, and it is both unstable and a bad
oh yeah, vitamin C lowers LDL cholesterol--which makes sense as LDL is attached to lpA and with enough vit C, you dont need LDL
pudmed.com will show lots of this occurrence.

I'll talk to my old biochem and phyis teachers to see what they think.

I dont buy this
BUT
I see no risk with taking 10+ grams of vitamin C since it has a short half life, is cheap, and it's water soluble.
reading just the 1st chapter makes me wonder
how do these people make money off telling me to take a few grams of vitamin C
Chris Rock says,"money is in the treatment, not the cure"
but this is a cure....

Default serving size

I bought a new sweatshirt, it was on sale for 27 cents!
I went to the cashier and the sweater was a total of $25
the cashier explained, 27 cents is the cost to wear the sweater daily in the winter

oh, that makes no sense, right?

so why is the FDA doing the same thing?
http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceRegu.../ucm385663.htm

Why does the FDA insist on telling us how much food we will eaT?

they are making changes to SERVING SIZE
currently a 1 pint ice cream is 4 servings....
which never made any sense, why am I forced to do math to figure out how many calories I'm getting?

now the FDA is changing that to
1 pint is 2 servings

why not just say the WHOLE Thing is 1 serving and let us figure how much to eat on our own?

Luckily, I can do math.

Default This is why

what's the best way to induce these Sirtuin genes?

1. straight forward caloric restriction?(burn 2000/day, so you just eat 1800 and lose weight)
2. Intermittent Fasting where have 12 hrs between feedings?(burn 2000/day, so you just eat 1800, with at least 12 hours between meals and lose weight)
3. 5/2 diet: where you burn 2000 calories/day, but 5 days a week you eat 2000 calories and 2 days where you eat about 600 calories
4. Eat about your TDEE (2000 calories) and take a 200mgs or so of 2,4 DNP or some mitochondrial uncouplers.

http://journals.plos.org/plosone/articl ... ne.0018433
Overall, we find that, similarly to CR, mild systemic uncoupling in mammals promoted by DNP leads to a stimulated response of Akt pathways, NO• generation and mitochondrial biogenesis. These results bring further support to the concept that variations in energy metabolism, in independent ways, can converge to pathways that are determinant for lifespan extension.

Use whatever diet gets you to a low bodyfat(<15% men, <24% women)

I note that jack lalanne, lived to 96, and was a big on health and had a few rules:

1. dont eat anything that's good(like candy is good, not your acquired taste for spinach or kale)
2 . eat twice a day
3. no snacking
4 no dairy
5 high protein/low fat
as a low fat diet(10-15% of total calories come from fat) also turns off cancer causing genes
http://www.pnas.org/content/105/24/8369.full.pdf+html

he has other rules,
http://rippeder.com/content/jack-lalann ... nd-fitness

I like this survey
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22530540
as it says people who arent very fat, (they use BMI,and not a better indicator, bodyfat %)
have a much better chance of living disease free

which goes along with CR http://www.vitamincfoundation.org/fo...p=38469#p38469

and with everything I've seen about living a healthy(quality) life as opposed to Fat Bastard, and just take some pills in whatever amounts and think you'll be healthy.

You want to trick the body to helping you live a healthy life is to make your body think you are starving to death either with low bodyfat/low leptin,(which activate AMPk and sirtuins) so just do what it takes to get there.
or use Sirtuin-activating compound like Resveratrol and quercetin/DNP/niacin
http://www.lmreview.com/articles/vie...fespan-part-i/

what is ampk
http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat...egulator.html/

Leptin Boosts Cellular Metabolism by Activating AMPK and the Sirtuins to Reduce Tau Phosphorylation and β-Amyloid in Neurons
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3196043/

This is why you are healthier when you arent fat;
fat people dont have low leptin and living in a caloric surplus, arent activating ampk

The continuation of your compilation of loosely interrelated thoughts convoluted with links to articles and research sprinkled in makes this seem more for personal reference than a discussion. The way the information is presented is disengaging, at best.

If the rant were to have simply been to vent and receive feedback from the community, it has outlived its usefulness.

Please link to your blog and ask for the thread closure as you, the OP may do so at your discretion.
