For Android there are a few apps that let you hide or at least password protect access to other apps.
On iPhone though it doesn't allow apps to have that kind of influence on other apps unless you jailbreak it and get some locking apps from Cydia.
Regarding Google Voice though on iPhone you can simply log out and then all that is seen is the app itself nothing else. Bury the icon a few pages deep in some random folder of apps and it's a non issue. Even if a colleague or something were to find it, opening the app just prompts login.
No MMS is a pain sometimes but other than that I've been happy with it. If they ever fully integrate it with Hangouts I'm not sure how that will change it but they've been slow to do anything thus far.
The longer I can avoid having a third phone the better as far as I'm concerned, and I like being able to text from my computer/ipad easily as well.
