I know several Conential Captians .... They are all loving life these days.... All they do is bitch about work these days... I am surprised there has not been a major mishap yet. There are huge training and cockpit setup differences between the 2 companies, they are still flying united crews together, and continental crews together just because of the training aspect.

I feel your pain, OP!!
I usually groan and pop the back of the seat. Works sometimes.
But, I will say that I caught a back middle seat on a dreamliner from Denver the other day. That's a 787. Couldn't believe how spacious it was. It was also on the back wall and it reclined. The only thing I had to worry about was a lithium battery catching on fire.
Oh, how I miss Continental. TSA pre screen is the only highlight recently.

yup, I miss Continental too. Not one trip this year (and I've already hit 1k again) on United that hasn't had an issue - nastry/rude flight attendants, delayed, etc. Oh, well, it's been good for several thousand FF miles and a travel voucher or two.

Try sitting in a coach seat for four plus hours without reclining ... the Nazis are not the only ones that know how to torture people.

The seats are made to recline and that bothers you!
Here is a good solution. Only fly on planes that have seats that don't recline.
That will make me happy.

Try 8-9 hours in coach to/from Europe several times a year.
Or try a 3-hour flight inside Europe, on a European airline. I'm pretty sure those things are built based on European personal space standards...unreclined, the seat is in your face. I don't understand how the always-tall Dutch fit into any of those seats.
OP, here's your solution: http://dereklow.co/what-its-like-to-...-suites-class/

The 8-9 hour flights are just a beat down in coach. If flying for work, the office then wonders why you are so tired when you arrive wonder why it takes a day or so to be productive.

The flight is just a mechanism to get there.
It's not that hard to manage.

You're right and you're wrong. On less than 4 hour flights in the US, first class is nearly as bad as coach on any 737 or Airbus 320/319. When you get to longer flights and bigger planes it does make a difference. International or coast to coast, I never sit in coach. The only true advantage to first class on short haul flights is the guy sitting next to you has to be a lot fatter to be practically sitting in your lap as in coach. That and the free booze.

I don't know how the people in steerage survived it.

Makes one wonder how many frequent fliers miles it took to book the 23K ticket.
