Mr Mojo, I like you for the most part, But you are just wrong. Why don't you borrow some clubs some time and try it?
I think that you will fine that it's probably the most difficult SPORT ever invented.
It's even harder to stay on top of the heap.
There have been very few truly greats in this SPORT.

Define "can".
Anybody "can" do football, baseball and basketball, too.
They just can't do them well.

I have, Golf is quite addictive. Some people find it relaxing too. I am not taking anything away from Golf by calling it a game it just simply doesn't have the elements to categorize it as a sport. Now I know it's debatable but that's my take.

The definition of "sport" follows:
"an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.
The definition of "game" follows:
a form of play or sport, especially a competitive one played according to rules and decided by skill, strength, or luck.
Based upon the actual definitions, a strong argument could be made that golf is both a game and a sport, not one or the other.

Ok let me clarify a little more on why I consider Golf a Game rather than a sport. We can include Bowling and pool in this as well. You don't have much influence on your opponent. For instance in Tennis the manner in which you serve the ball to your opponent could have a great influence on the outcome. In Golf that's not the case you have no direct influence over your opponent. Another point Golf like Bowling and Pool you face more than one opponent during a single contest.

Jumbo, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the competitive nature of the sport and/or game itself, has a strong influence upon both you and your opponent(s) as it relates to how you play the game and/or sport.
Whether you are playing football, baseball, basketball, tennis, pool or golf, the will to win influences how you play the sport and/or game.
Especially at the professional level!

You mean the competitive spirit the will to win, that kind of goes without saying. That's not exactly what I was referring to.

Let's be clear what I'm referring to, shall we?
I don't do it often but in this instance I agree with Lama.
I believe golf meets all of the basic criteria to be considered a sporting event.

Ah yes the old Golf is not a sport small minded people that have no clue.
The game is Golf, playing it is a sport.
No different in that aspect than football is a game or baseball is a game or tennis is a game.
It is always a game until you are playing it and then it is a sport.
The game only outlines the parameters of the sport.
Of course, you are entitled to your opinion.
The PGA is one of the few sports leagues where the athletes are paid based on their performance at each event with those that fail to beat at least half of the field getting nothing for their efforts. Golf is the only sport where you compete against about 144 others to have an opportunity to beat them. To win, you must beat them all.

Jimbo seems to have overlooked quite a few facts in this and other threads.

Oh well excuse me. Do I need to contact Rory somehow and apologize for mistakenly calling him British on a hooker board.

Jimbo, I don't believe you will be able to contact Rory at BR 549.
The last I heard, that was the only phone number in your address book?
