So much for the "illusion" of gun free zones in the Old West.

The .41 Short bullet moved very slowly, at about 425 feet per second (130 m/s), around half the speed of a modern .45 ACP. It could be seen in flight, but at very close range, such as at a casino or saloon card table, it could easily kill.

I think IBIdiot is trying to justify today's gun violence by comparing it to one of his favorite days gone by...

I wonder how many people have died this year in Chicago and how many of them were under 18.
Too bad about Obama not being able to overrule the 2nd Amendment with an EO. Perhaps he should try a #hashtag attack.

Yes, that addresses the topic of gun shooting at schools. Of course it does.

And so, what EXACTLY have the anti-gun folks suggested as a solution that would have actually stopped any of the 74 attacks? SPECIFICALLY other than "we should put more restrictions on guns that will only be obeyed by the law abiding" that is.

The status quo doesn't seem to be working too well, does it?

I think we all understand your concern. Even if the second Amendment was completely abolished and firearms seized to be manufactured, sold you still would have firearms circulating through this country. We have 300 plus million people in America and about five times that many firearms of various types. It just wouldn't be a practical assumption that all of them could be confiscated. I think your view of gun violence could be over exaggerated anyway. Have you ever been a victim of a violent crime and how many people do you know have been a victim of a violent crime where a firearm was used? Iam not going to say we don't have a high rate of violent crime in America, but it isn't what you think. When you hear about shootings in big cities and people were shot and killed they aren't talking about sweet innocent children playing in the school yard or sitting in their classroom at school, even though tragedies happen, statistically these are not the type of shootings that are occurring in big cities regularly. You were asking what can be done. First let me give you a few stats on Chicago's murder rate. In 2012 there was a little over 500 murders in Chicago, Ill. I am not sure how many involved firearms, in 2013 they saw a drop in murders to well over 400, the reasons that Chicago officials cite for the drop in murders is due to firearm regulation and most notably better police interaction in the higher crime areas. For 2014 Chicago Police are hoping for even a less violent year. This also goes for other cities as well the large and the small. We don't have to dismantle our constitution or ban firearms to make life safer. It has a lot to do with the attitudes of the people as well as police tactics and the manner in which the courts deal with any crime involving a firearm.

Like I said ... Suggestions, not excuses, talking points and rhetoric.
But I do appreciate the thought, Jim. Seriously.

Private property owners should be able to ban guns from their property if they want to. It would be kind of stupid, however. Criminals won't obey the ban.

It also has to do with gun control laws. It is harder to get guns in NYC. It has been found that guns used in many crimes are bought in other states since they are not easily obtainable in NYC. Now what if other states made it more difficult to buy guns so criminals would have a more difficult time obtaining them at all? Just a thought.
