Also strengthen the core muscles of the abdomen, and lose the belly weight.
Belly weight is leveraged over the spine and pulling on the spine can throw it out of alignment, putting stress on those vertebrae and muscles which go into the spasm.

May have to get it stabilized with surgery, but not soon.
