Assistance in KC.
We arrived yesterday (sexi_kacey and I) to this beautiful city. We love to eat and experience the local good eats so with that said... What are some of the good local spots downtown and in the plaza area? Are there any good bbq places near? We are always looking food, fun and to meet new friends.

There is also a Jack Stack on the plaza, if that is where you are staying.

Oklahoma Joe's is an amazing BBQ place (the original one that's downtown is attached to a gas station still...it's amazing though)

If you like a little character in your eateries I would recommend:
Grinders (West Side of Crossroads)
Town Topic (two locations Broadway or Baltimore Ave.)
Hamburger Marys
Manny's Restaurant Mexicano
Lulu's Thai Noodle Shop
The Art of Pizza (true NYC pizza - the owner is from Brooklyn)
All these places are in the downtown KCMO area also known as The Crossroads. Happy bellies, yum yum! Welcome to KC!!

There's a nice collection of everything about halfway between Downtown and Plaza.
Some call that area Midtown, some call it Crossroads. Plaza area has it's own web page also, but Plaza hosts an older crowd.

Thanks everyone who chimed in. It was cold and the streets are crazy. We had a lot of cancellations but we both like the city and will return.

Oklahoma Joe's is for white suburbanites. It tastes good, but it lacks soul. Jack's Stack is also fairly honkeyfied, but you know that going in. If you want real, authentic KC 'cue, go east on Cleaver Blvd (one of the main drags on the Plaza) to Gate's. If you want good pizza, go to Minskey's, just south of the creek that runs through the Plaza on Main Street.

I visit the crossroads often. After Hamburger Mary's took over the spot from a Bar-B-Q I did not visit the new place for several months. The one time I thought to try it; I walked in, looked at the menu and the decor and walked right back out again. The impression of the place was "expensive dive". Later, I learned that HM has sponsored the Gay Pride Parade.
My first impressions must have been a warning to stay away from this place.

Also not mentioned is some of the best pan fried chicken, family style anywhere. Strouds up North, or on SM Parkway if you are staying in the plaza area,is fantastic. If you are out South, RC's is almost as good.
