You know, the younger guys don't understand why its called muff diving, everything is shaved these days. Back in the 70's it was just big and hairy. It was like diving into a fur muff....

Actually, McFosters is kinda close. Per Wikipedia, Playboy defines "dive" as: "A church for down-and-outers and those who romanticize them, a rare place where high and low rub elbows—bums and poets, thieves and slumming celebrities. It’s a place that wears its history proudly." There's not too much holding McFosters together outside of spit and baling wire, and some of the clientele look like they're a baby step away from skid row, but it's primarily vegan, organic fare.

When a place has a reputation like Knuckleheads, it's kind of past the whole snobbery continuum, don't you think?

I love Knuckleheads. People of all ilk go there just to enjoy the music. I've sat at one of the long tables with bikers, preps, gays and some guys from France. Everyone gets along. Only one rule, you sit at a table with me, prepare for some gratis tequila shots being put in front of you.

Well, I could say Runza's fit the bill, but they're neither healthy or a hole in the wall...and a lot of people around here love 'em.
