Gotdamn - I consider myself keen but there is nothing like a mother's instinct and her willingness to sacrifice. Good on ya Ma! I live in Colorado for 3 years and the winters are no joke.

If the landlord is renting an unsafe home, there are people who would like to know it. Report it to the Housing department and the Health department.

And , if it was me, I would talk to a lawyer. If he was already aware of the mold, he may be liable for property and healthcare cost. If he was not aware, he may still be liable. That is what his liability insurance is for.

That is just my opinion. But an attorney could do some checking and then do a contingency lawsuit, if warranted.

I did talk to a lawyer. Sadly there isn't much they can do. Because the "government" thinks that microtoxins don't cause harm. We have to have a documented allergy to mold, but that's not what was making us sick. The mold releases microtoxins which causes serious illness in people. It's like smelling bleach constantly. You aren't allergic but long time exposure can make you very sick. The lawyer said there wasn't anything I can do. And it makes me furious because I'm apart of a support group of people who went through what we did. Thousands of families are affected. Thousands of families lose EVERYTHING because of black mold and we aren't protected. We are starting a movement to try to get the government to realize that black mold IS dangerous and we need to be protected from it. Landlords are not liable to fix mold. This landlord fits the definition of a slum lord. Another of my neighbors were constantly getting staph infections once they moved in. Their doctor told them it was where they lived and they moved out and since then their health has returned. Multiple neighbors are going through this. I also called the health department and they don't care. I don't understand how this can be legal.

Glad to hear all is OK Malaya.

If the landlord knew about the mold then yes legal action should be taken.

BUT, if the landlord did not know then he should not be liable. Taking legal action if the landlord did not know is wrong. Too many small business owners have lost everything or shut down their business because of these types of lawsuits. IMO lawyers say it is for justice by they are only doing it for the money. They know that most cases will settle out of court just to end it.

I told him about the mold I'm February of this year. I've waited 8 months for him to fix it. He refused.

Regarding the mold... Nasty!! Glad you and your babies are doing better!!

Regarding self employment... If you do it the right way self employment shouldn't be an issue with renting a house or apartment.
