Actually, if it were remotely true, it would be good news indeed for Professor Barleycorn to be in the top 2% of the "something" alluded to here.

And please note, CJ7, that a slight correction is in order here. Barleycorn claimed not just to be in the top 2% of the IQ distribution, but in the top 0.2 percent!

That post is from a thread I started about four months ago amid widespread annoyance at three prolific forum hogs (Barleycorn, Whirlaway and COG). The latter, thankfully, seems to have cooled it a bit and isn't starting many threads these days. The other two...well, not so much.

I ridiculed those three obnoxious buffoons by mockingly referring to them as Triple Nine Society members, so Barleycorn apparently felt compelled to comment.

Regarding the question of whether the other two are likely to meet the qualification standards of the Triple Nine Society, you can read their posts and judge for yourself.

Most shutdowns happened under a GOP president and democratic congress but that would be against the OP. The presidents and congress always negoiated unlike Obama and Reid. These two facts run counter to what CJ is trying to imply.

End Date 11 Oct 76, president Ford (R) House - D Senate D reason: Ford vetoed spending bill because he wanted more cuts to spending. result - Veto Overridden

End Date 13 Oct 77, president Carter (D) House and Senate D, reason Carter and the House didn't want Medicaid to pay for abortions, result - temporary measure passed to allow more time.

End Date 9 Nov 77 , president: Carter (D) House and Senate D, reason - time ran out on previous extension, result - you guessed it, another extension

End Date 9 Dec 77, Still Carter & the Democrats, reason - you guessed it, ran out of time again, resolution - worked out a COMPROMISE (not sure what that word means, couldn't find it in today's political lexicon)

End Date 18 Oct 78, still Carter and Democrats, reason Carter vetoed defense spending bill because he thought an aircraft carrier in the bill was wasteful, abortion and other issues as well. Result - new bill passed without Aircraft carrier

End Date 12 Oct 79, Carter and Democrats in House and Senate still, reason the House wanted a pay raise for themselves and senior civil servants, plus they were still bickering over medicaid funding for abortions. Result - compromise, House got their pay raise & allowed federal funds for abortion

23 Nov 81, president: Reagan (R), House D, Senate R, reason - Reagan wanted domestic spending cuts, house Democrats wanted another pay raise for themselves and Civil Servants, Senate went along with Reagan, result - temporary measure passed.

End Date 2 Oct 82, Reagan (R), House D, Senate R, reason - they ran out of time again. Resolution - they got off their asses and passed a bill. It exceeded Reagan's desire for spending cuts.

End Date 21 Dec 82, Reagan (R), House D, Senate R, reason - House was opposed to funding for the MX Missile. Also spending exceeded Reagan's wishes. Result - more compromise, MX Missile funding scrapped, jobs spending scrapped.

End Date 14 Nov 83, Reagan (R), House D, Senate (R), reason - multiple issues. Result, more compromise. (We need some historical anthropologist or something to find the meaning of this word).

End Date 3 Oct 84, Reagan (R), House D, Senate (R), reason - multiple again, result - 3 day extension passed.
