lawyer (advice) needed in Wichita!
I missed a court date on a ticket I got for illegal tint on windows and expired license. What do I do now?
I've never missed court before and absolutely clueless.
It was pure accident that I missed court, I just forgot about the ticket since I got it like 2 months ago and only just found it when I was digging for my speeding ticket.
Can anyone recommend an attorney? Do I need an attorney?
Also, I looked on the court docket for Wichita and I cant found my case... My ticket is kinda beat up and I don't know the exact day I was suppose to be in court...
Thanks!

Just go to court, show up and state you forgot about your court date.
this shows you want to handle your problem, and that you are not trying to run away from it.
this will show in favor of you, and might help you out in the long run.
good luck.
no one likes going to court and paying fines.
don't forget to take your paperwork that you had everything fixed or repaired, and up to date.
you might get lucky and only have to pay a small fine.

Wrong, their is all ready a bench warrent for her arrest. Your best course of action is to call the court clerk, tell him/her that you forgot the court date and failed to appear. She can tell you the bond amount you will have to pay and where you can go pay it. Pay the bond and reset the court date. In Kansas City you can just go into the police station and pay it and then they will notify you of your court date. Johnson county will arrest you and require you to bond out, this is why you want the information ahead of time so you can assure that you have the bond money or a bondsman already set up to minimize your time in jail. Wichita may be very different so like I said call the court clerk and explain the situation, but do this before you go to the court or police station so you can know what your going to need and your not trying to get a bondsman while locked up.

I have to agree with DD on this one. Call the court clerk and explain. Go from there.

If you get arrested you could get a body cavity search by Bertha. Bet that is fun.

I'll take one from you or Whizman instead. The name Bertha reminds me of big and grumpy.

The good thing is they aren't chasing after you just yet..not over a traffic violation...but if you get stopped you will get arrested so obey all the laws, use turn signals, etc. Don't turn into the wrong lane, my personal pet peeve, :-) Stay off the streets as much as possible until you get your file updated. If you have to go to jail and get bonded out it isn't that big of deal. It isn't like you killed anyone. Just follow the directions and don't get smart with any of the officers, they are just doing their jobs.

Roy, she said her court date is next week, so it was just a scare.
DD was spot on. Different places view it differently. Many don't bother with seeking you out for a warrant, but put them out there in case you're stopped in which case they will take you in at least long enough to post bond.
Typically, they also suspend your license for failure to appear. They generally won't arrest you at Municipal Court for showing up to clear it up, but you will have to post a bond, unless you clear up all of the charges then and there, such as by pleading to the citation or making a deal with the prosecutor. Suspension of your license is effective because it is a pain to get reinstated since you have to deal with both the division of vehicles and court and that requires proof of liability insurance in the least. It's also more serious if you're stopped while driving on a suspended license.
Cities are more interested in traffic enforcement as a way to generate revenue for the city. Safety is a mere secondary benefit. Thus, it costs a city money to hold you, so they aren't interested in that. Counties have jails anyway, so they don't care if they hold you, unless they're overcrowded, in which case they'll kick you out. If it's a county ticket (District Court in Kansas) they operate different from municipal courts and with less leniency, so you should get a lawyer for those.

I found out the hard way that KS takes it serious if your driving suspended. I forgot a court date and they suspended my license. Of course they don't notify you of that, I got pulled over by the highway patrol who didn't arrest me but gave me a ticket driving suspended. I then found out that its an automatic 6 months in jail if convicted of driving suspended at least in Johnson county. Its no fun, that's why its always better to investigate with the phone before showing up somewhere and saying hi.
