When people ask where I am from, I have NEVER said upstate NY. The only people who say that, seem to associate their area with NYC. Us folks here in Western NY have a bit of dislike for NYC.

Isn't Westchester considered upstate?

I'd prefer the first change to see Canada off our board. However you divvy up the state, there is significance in an international border.

GBOF... the region you are describing is called The North Country Upstate is everything north of NYC... and includes the Southern Tier, Central NY, Western NY, The Capital District, and The North Country. Downstate is all that dog sht on the boot heel of the state including NYC and LI, LOL.

It would make more sense if we didn't use Upstate and Downstate as regions... they should just describe which direction things are in relation to one another. BUT for the sake of this board, we'd have to call the forum "The rest of NY, NOrthern PA, and some of Canada".
