More Operating Theatans are abandoning their religion (the Church of Greenology).........
A few weeks ago, the reliably green British journalist Mark Lynas issued a mea culpa about his longtime opposition to genetically modified organisms (GMOs). As I’ve experienced first hand, European opposition to GMOs is nearly as sacred as opposing plastic bags here in the U.S. (This is even true, to my great surprise, among many conservatives in Europe.) Here’s Lynas, from his lecture at the Oxford Farming Conference on January 3:
I want to start with some apologies. For the record, here and upfront, I apologise for having spent several years ripping up GM crops. I am also sorry that I helped to start the anti-GM movement back in the mid 1990s, and that I thereby assisted in demonising an important technological option which can be used to benefit the environment.
As an environmentalist, and someone who believes that everyone in this world has a right to a healthy and nutritious diet of their choosing, I could not have chosen a more counter-productive path. I now regret it completely.
So I guess you’ll be wondering – what happened between 1995 and now that made me not only change my mind but come here and admit it? Well, the answer is fairly simple: I discovered science, and in the process I hope I became a better environmentalist. And.....
James Lovelock, the inventor of the famous “Gaia hypothesis” beloved of environmentalists and fruit-juice drinkers everywhere. The proximate cause of his defection is his quite proper reaction against the wind power fanatics who are desecrating the English countryside. But as you’ll see his critique goes beyond contesting the wind-breaking nuttery of the greens. Here’s the relevant part of what Lovelock wrote a few days ago:
I am James Lovelock, scientist and author, known as the originator of Gaia theory, a view of the Earth that sees it as a self-regulating entity that keeps the surface environment always fit for life… I am an environmentalist and founder member of the Greens but I bow my head in shame at the thought that our original good intentions should have been so misunderstood and misapplied. We never intended a fundamentalist Green movement that rejected all energy sources other than renewable, nor did we expect the Greens to cast aside our priceless ecological heritage because of their failure to understand that the needs of the Earth are not separable from human needs. We need take care that the spinning windmills do not become like the statues on Easter Island, monuments of a failed civilization.

Cheat - I wanted an answer from the rebtards and libtards, they were bound to get it wrong.
OK, rebtards and libtards, you have the answer, now please give me the explanation for 2 extra marks.

You wouldn't know science if he spit in your face.
Here is what you wrongly thought was correct environmental science...
- B. Simple question, if an ice cube, floating in your glass of water, melts, does the water level go up or down? If you can't answer that question, STFU here.
It didn't take long for even the simplest of dunces in the Sandbox (IvaGoNoNuts) to prove your a scientific moron...
I strongly suggest YOU follow your own medicine and STFU !

Oh God, you're trying to pull my leg again.
At the first approximation, the water level stays the same.
It is because a floating object displaces it's own mass - so the melted ice has the same mass when it melts, so it replaces the displaced volume.
I assume you learnt that, like me, when about 13 years old (I don;t know about your grade system)
However, at a further approximation, you have to consider the temperature of the glass, and the water.
Water, like most liquids, contracts as the temperature decreases. So, if the ice is in hot water, the water temperature would decrease as it melts and the volume of water would decrease.
However, unlike any other liquid I am aware of, water expands again as the temperature is reduced below 4 deg C. So if after melting the water was below 4 degrees, the volume would increase and the level would rise.
However, the glass also is affected by the temperatire. As it's temp falls, it would get smaller, so this would have the effect of the level rising.
So, in summary, if ice is placed in a glass of water which is in temperature equilibrium with the glass, then if the water is 4 degrees or below, the effect of the melting ice would be to (a) lower the temp of the water, which would increase the volume (b) lower the temp of the glass, again increasing the level of the water, so the result is a small increase in the level of the water.
Given a constant room temperatire, over a longer period of time the water and glass temperature would regain equilibrium with the room temperatire, and the level would gradually revert to the original level.
If the ice is placed in a glass of water above 4 degrees, then the glass containing ice should be poured into the back seat of the reptards and libtards, in order to numb the surrounding area prior to having the shit fucked out of their asses.
Does that help?
I know CoG has a history of trying to provoke me to outing my science/maths education level, but I will refrain from responding at this time. He would only give some ass shit response anyway.

You proposed a question that you thought proved a point; the answer didn't. It makes you look foolish, now you are trying to paper over your foolishness.

Papering over foolishness is a full time job for liberals. Liberalism is all misdirection, lies, demagoguery, smoke and mirrors. If liberals had any intellectual integrity, they wouldn't be liberals.

A short summary of the most idiotic statements on this thread.
I suppose global warming caused the 1900 hurricane in Galveston.
Stop the volcanoes of Iceland, they will destroy the earth!
The climate change hoax is just an excuse to form a world government.
Global cooling, no wait, global warming, no wait, climate change, is nothing more than a big hoax, (ie, money grab).
The fact is, the earth will do what it will. We have little or no effect on it. And all the government control the world wants to muster will not change it.
The existing scientific evidence for human caused global warming is flimsy at best.
All this man made global warming, is a bunch of bs, broughr about by the likes of shit for brains al gore, and all his cronies that are all set on selling and trading in carbon credits.
This is not about climate. It is about control.
That means ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT. That's what the global warming hoax is all about.
I haven't noticed the water rising in Galveston, but I'll keep an eye on it.
Nope, island is not going underwater,
That's how you can tell the global warming alarmists are bullshitting. They say the polar ice caps are melting. If they were, sea levels would rise all over the world; it's just not happening. Al Gore's movie said the sea level would rise by twenty feet off the east coast in the near future. Other climate scientists admitted that their estimates were closer to twenty inches.
Now, if you actually look at the wiki entry, you will see reputable scientists talk about, by the year 2099, a rise of 18-59 centimeters, and another group talk about an upper limit of 2 metres. A further group talk about 32 cm by 2050. Not quite what Al Gore is quoted as saying above.
You can still go swimming at Galveston for many generations. 'Near future' may be talking in terms of geological time scales.

We all knew the answer to the question. It's basic, and learned in grade school, or at least middle school. Even in our current system, that is basic knowledge. The fact that we ignore your little games to try to prove your intellectual superiority simply proves our intelligence.
You want to talk down to us? Go ahead, just don't expect us to play along.

from Urban Dictionary......
Shakespeare
Undeniably the most influential man in the porno industry. By altering many of the titles from his thirty-seven plays, the Shakespearean theme in the bedroom--or anywhere else for that matter--has been an immediate success, beginning with 'The Secret Sex Lives of Romeo and Juliet' (1969).
Other raunchy adaptations of the famous bard's work consist of titles like:
A Midsummer Night's Cream, A Midsummer's Wet Dream, A Midsummer Night's Creampie, King Rear, Loves Labia Licked, Hardcore Lady Macbeth, In The Flesh (an adaptation of Macbeth), Measure for Measure (involving two gay department store salesmen), The Taming of the Screw, Titties Andronicus, Ebony Andronicus, Much Ado About Nuttin', Two Gentlemen DO Verona, Two Gentlemen IN Verona, Two Gentlemen In Each Other, The Merchant of Penis, Penis and Adonis, The Merry Whores of Windsor, The Merry Wives of Bukkake, The Tragedy of Julius Creamer, Julius' Semen, As You Like It... Over and Over, As You Lick It, The Best Part of Henry VI, Anal Laments: Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Julian, Hamlet's Hoe, Hamlet Gets a Handjob, X Hamlet, Twelfth Night of Sodomy, Measure for Pleasure, Othelia/The Whore of Venice Beach, Othello: Dangerous Desire, Alls Well When Swallowed Well, The Rape of Lucrecia, The Rape of Lucy, The Rape of Luke (disputable), The Temptress, The Two Horny Kinsman, Shannon Does Shakespeare, and The Sodomy of Cleopatra.
