Yes, you are very correct. Not to mention, that the fact that the dam thing usually leaks at the lower crankcase as well. This is usually the actual leak. Not just the oil pan.
The head bolts break all the time on removal. Block boltholes get strpped. Crank bolt holes get stripped. Cheaper in the long run to just get a replacemt engine through GM. And that is not cheap eaither.
And yes, there is a need for ASE certification. Im Gm certified, 100 percent trained in almost every area and am ASE Master certified. And have spent more than 25 years in GM Dealerships.
Don't let anyone talk you into the old "I can fixthat" deal. It never ends cheaply. And you usualy get screwed in more than one way.
