The cable news ratings for the third quarter of 2012 are in, and MSNBC is smiling widely.

Fox News dominated as usual, taking the top ten cable news shows, but it was an especially sweet quarter for MSNBC, which celebrated two milestones. The network had a record-breaking September, when it topped its rivals in primetime convention ratings, and won a full week of weekday primetime ratings for the first time in its sixteen-year history.

MSNBC, which was also buoyed by the Olympics in August, saw double digit growth in the demo and total viewers for most of its programming, when compared to Q3 2011. "Hardball,” “PoliticsNation” and “The Ed Show,” for example, drew their most total viewers ever in September. The network was up 35% among viewers ages 25-54, and 33% in total viewers, compared to last year.

Meanwhile, CNN saw some signs of hope in the third quarter. It continued to see declines compared to Q3 2011 (down 9% in total viewers and down 14% in the demo), but, riding the election wave, managed to make huge gains since the last quarter.

I was never defending Fox. I just think the President should answer their questions. I don't like Fox, and rarely, if ever watch it. That was never the point. However, they are a major news organization.

Saying that Fox News is the highest rated cable news network is sort of like saying water is wet. They don't just beat the competition; they humiliate them.

It's a real measure of just how committed, main stream media is to the cause of socialism, that they don't copy Fox's concept of fair and balanced news coverage. Fox has proven that their policy of covering news, instead of propagandizing, is the most profitable policy.

The old saying of follow the money applies in the case of news coverage. If a news provider knows he can make more money by forgoing leftist propaganda, and still continues to spin for the left, you know he's committed to the cause. Leftist journalists are what Eric Hoffer called true believers; they are willing to sacrifice for the cause.
