There is a reason he is widely regarded as The Godfather of Heavy Metal music
Actually, I believe that's Lars Ulrich. Both Ulrich and Lombardo use the twin-Tama set-up, but the Danish flag on Lars' kit is the giveaway.

You are absolutely right-on regarding Tommy Iommi. He invented metal. Period. Although I follow the conventional wisdom and accept Hendrix as the greatest guitar player of all time, Iommi has been vastly more influential. Hendrix was essentially a blues guitarist, like his contemporaries Page, Beck, Clapton, and Richards. Their playing was/is derivative of basic Delta blues (nothing wrong with that!). Iommi did something no-one had ever done before. Many players have imitated Iommi, some better that the original, frankly. Hendrix, on the other hand, just out-played eveyone. SRV, Robin Trower, John Frusciante, and Ernie Isley are the only guitarists I've heard that can do justice to Hendrix.

As for drummers, John Bonham, Bill Bruford, Keith Moon, and Danny Carey . . . hands down. There's an old thread on here somewhere debating the respective merits of jazz drummers vs. rock drummers.

Black Sabbath is definitely my favorite band, but close behind are Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Velvet Underground, Hendrix, ZZ Top, SRV, Tool,

I dunno dude. Not only have I seen Lombardo play numerous times, but I've also met the dude. Maybe Lars gave him that flag as a birthday present while on the Metallica-Slayer-Megadeth-Anthrax tour.

This is Lombardo....

That img is from drummerworld.com

Sure looks like the same dude to me.

I think I have a possible explanation for the Danish Flag.

In the "Big 4" DVD, Metallica was the last band to play then all bands came out on stage and jammed together. Maybe Dave hopped on Lars kit since Metallica's equipment was all still out there.

I'm curious about this now, and I have that DVD at home. I'll check it out and give an update...

The best guitarist IMO. Some of the sickest riffs ever played.
