Football and basketball are what's wrong with boxing in America. Look on that football field and tell me you don't see some boys that could probably throw down if they had gone for boxing. Boxing is dieing a slow death. Without mayweather and Pac what do you have? Nothing worth seeing that's what. To tell the truth back in the day they wouldn't be that big a draw at least not to the point they are today. The lack of a heavyweight boxer is just killing us as well.
Then you got the fraud, that's a whole other story.

A few football players have tried unsuccessfully to crossover into boxing over the years.
Boxing is on more tv now and making more money than ever.
The lack of an AMERICAN heavyweight contender is what is different from back in the days when we had tyson, holyfield, bowe, and larry holmes.
Some people thought mma was going to kill boxing. The truth is mma money is nowhere near boxing money. Boxing is doing just fine.

All of that is true....& then some...no doubt. But, what you're also seeing is a LOT of young boxers with tons of raw physical talent who simply don't know what they're doing! Don't know how to set up a punch...don't know how/why to put together combinations...don't know how to cut off the ring....yada, yada, yada.
In the same era Boardman referenced...the one where you still catch the odd title fight on WWoS, you also didn't see guys turn pro w/o 100+ amateur bouts first. They were well taught & experienced before they ever earned a dollar.
Another reason the sport is dying is the boxers just plain stink. Training fighters is becoming a lost art....

Alot of exciting stuff going on in boxing right now.
Adrien Broner is rising fast. Canelo, Guerrero, Martinez all screaming at the top of their lungs for a shot at Mayweather.
Pacquiao v Marquez coming up soon. Miguel Cotto fights this weekend.
Danny Garcia and Zab Judah fight coming up.
50 cent and Mayweather beefing. Alot of stuff going on.

I hate/love this thread because i would love to see boxing fixed but know that it will never happen. I think promoters are really ruining the sport. Next would be all the b/s associations. I enjoy UFC to but their shit stinks too. I feel the networks ppv, hbo, sho, etc. could fix it all by saying no promoters and demanding 1 ranking system(the ring)...let me stop I could write a novel on this. Just getting upset thinking about it. Mayweather could be great if he actually fought contenders...not boxers past their prime or just moving up in class

I hear you trim beater. Now we got Canelo Alvarez saying he's only fighting twice next year. The dude hasn't even beaten anybody that good and he thinks he only has to fight twice a year.
Yea boxing has it's issues but it's always been like that. Sometimes what's best for the sport isn't always what's best for the fighters' and promoters' profit margin.
Check out Adrien Broner. That kid is scary good and he's almost as cocky as Mayweather. I'm praying for him to fight Yoriorkis Gamboa.
I follow the sport pretty closely and I love all the side drama that goes along with it. Delahoya's always in the middle of everything adding to the drama. It's like a soap opera.

I'm a Pacman fan but damn by now you'd think Pac would be tired of being his ass or Cotto would get tired of getting his ass beat.
50 cent and Mayweather i need to read about.... I haven't been able to catch up with it.

for all of those who could wait till its replayed...
YOU MISSED AN AWESOME BATTLE
even though the undercards SUCKED, INCLUDING 50 Cent being dropped in the ring via cables while spouting off the most obscene lyrics he could come with, even with MIT ROMNEY SAYING TO PAC
"I ran for president & I lost"
the bloody toe to toe power punch fest was great!

Betty... you and i are the only ones awake or what. im glad im under you, jeje, . Damn ! Now you got 2 loosers standing side be side..... Pacquiao and Romney, i had a bad feeling about Romney being in pacman's corner, at ring side of coarse, it was going to be very bad luck! And sure enough, he didn't see it coming, and such is life. I'm no Marquez's fan, but he looked pretty beefed up. I need to take the supplements that he's taken, mmmmm. Lmao

The Gamboa fight was good.

I have a big hunch that's the case.
I, too, follow the sport extremely close. A die-hard fan for sure.
I could talk about boxing all night.
Part of me hopes that testing was performed for Marquez. At 39 years of age and better than ever?
Come on! It doesn't take a Larry Merchant to figure this one out!

But still, you have to applaude the way the fight ended.
No score cards, no punch count, no bickering about how judges could see the same fight so differently, no split decision, and no doubt
Nope. A crashing Blow from a Marquez right hand, sent the Pac-Man to the promise land.
End of discussion.
