I'm curious, could you describe what you mean by homemade?
My long dead Sicilian Grandmother's homemade pizza was just like all the so called bakery pizzas that one found in the old Italian bakeries. OK, but nothing to write home about.

I like Molinaro's on Sheridan, Tonawanda. But I vote with Jokacz Chicago, Lou Malnatis or Giordanos.

Remember Rodney's on Sheridan and Belmont? Hell of a pie.
Not really pizza, but Bob and John's La Hacienda on Hertel Ave - Spinach and Mushroom Blue cheese pizza is mighty tasty.

I had a Sicilian grandmother too. Her pizza was just dough, some kind of marinara sauce with oregano, and grated cheese (probably Pecorino Romano). Pecorino means made from sheep's milk. It was okay, but not like American pizza.
My grandmother's pizza was authentic -- just like in Italy. American pizza's been bastardized; just like traditional Chinese food was to appeal to the masses.
When the Chinese emigrated to the West Coast of America to help build the railroads, many settled in San Francisco and opened restaurants. They soon found out that the majority of their dishes didn’t appeal to the indigenous of their new country. So, they changed things to what we Americans know today as Chinese food. That’s why in some Chinese restaurants they offer two different menus – the alternate consisting of solely authentic, traditional offerings.
That’s what happened to pizza too. It became “Americanized”.
As an aside; there used to be a bakery off Lyell, where Roncone’s is, that closed around 10 years ago named Veltry’s (spelling). They had only the aforementioned traditional pizza. They were round, about 6 inches in diameter, and very popular with the Italian people from around the county.
