That caller most likely has a Christian belief in God. The most prominant Religion in Russia is Christian Orthodoxy. But there is also large numbers of non Christian religions as well. Just like we have non christian groups here.

Liberal politicians crave power above all else. As the government gains power, the people lose freedom; it's a zero sum game. Thomas Jefferson said eternal vigilance is the price of freedom. It's not likely that the people will be vigilant in gaurding freedom, if they don't understand it's in constant jeopardy.

I certainly agree with you on that. The Freedom Americans have enjoyed is unique to our country. Our founding fathers picked the Bald Eagle as our countries bird to symbolize our freedom. The Bald Eagle is unique to North America. Conservationist have gone to great lengths to protect this animal and it's habitat from extinction. It seems funny that the Bird that symbolizes our freedom is so diligently protected, yet we don't put the same effort in protecting freedom itself.

Thomas Jefferson lived in an agrarian gentleman farmer society that had slavery and indentured servitude where 98% of the people were NOT free anyway. He was a brilliant thinker and writer and I went to UVa, but pleeeaaaseeee don't think that his beautifully crafted theoretical essays have more than the most tenuous applicability in our modern society. Blacks, women, men who didn't own land and any minority basically had no freedom at all, and if they did for a short time, then any wrong step and the law would not protect anything they had much less their person. Get a grip and figure out that we are already all socialists the only question is what degree. There never was a real communism and the only reality is varying degrees of democracy or despotism. Obama is not the enemy, a Republican Party that basically wants a one party state (can you say Communist) and Karl Rove and his ilk that will do anything (can you say voter suppression) to achieve it are the real enemy. Denying the vote is Un-patriotic and essentially un-American. Get a mirror and take a good long introspective look because you have lost all connection to reality.
I'll die to defend any bat-shit crazy thing you think or say as long as it doesn't undermine the Republic that you say you love so much (and say anyone who doesn't agree with you hates and is determined to destroy) so put that in your red-white-and-blue pipes and smoke it.

Principles are timeless, and we are not all socialists. We are not so far advanced that we no longer need liberty. It's not the Republicans only who want a one-party state, the Democrats and Republicans are working together to bring that about. The idea that the Republicans are pure evil while the Democrats are righteous and holy is ludicrous.
Get a grip, Aust. You're trying to sound smart, but it isn't working. You're just the rare liberal who can write in complete sentences. That doesn't change the fact that you are spouting bullshit.

Look it up stupid. Communism doesn't mean someone is an athiest. It just means ya can't own shit. Besides it's no different than you advocating Socialism but at the same time you claim to believe in God.

The underground church in the old Soviet Union was pretty strong, as it is in China, and even North Korea.

Yes there was/is a strong undergroung church in those countries...the reason they are underground is because those communist gov'ts did not allow it to be out in the open
Wiki results for Communism and religion...goes straight to K Marx... contains quotes such as "opuim of the people", "had ambivalent attitude towards religion" and finally "In the end Marx rejected religion"
Also please note acp 5762, lol

Well thats really not such a big surprise that many soviet christians had to worship in private. The fact still remains that christian faith still exists among the Soviets.
