What's with Texas? I thought Texas was the last bastion of freedom. But there is a school in Texas where the students have to have an RFID chipped ID card with them wherever they go. This is so the school can track them.

Several large companies around the US require their workers to wear id tags at all times. Guess what its a tracking device.

This is an individual school district and not something that is a State mandate.
Part of the issue may revolve around that responsibility of the school for the safety and well being once they are there. The question then becomes how to keep track of the students that are their responsibility.

One thing that I learned in my public school education is that when you are in school you do not have the same rights as when you are not in school and that there are consequences for certain things that there are no consequences for outside of school.

I could do a compare and contrast but it is pointless.

i find it pretty interesting that the ACLU refused to take up this particular case as saying the case didn't qualify under their parameters.

in this case, this school was dealing with high rates of truancy.

It is a safety issue, not a personal choice issue. Move from that district if you do not like how they choose to keep your children safe or teach school ....

Having documentation of who was where when dealing with school violence would be beneficial. If the school has a responsibility of watching out for minors when they are in their custody, it would be beneficial to know where they are and if they are where they are supposed to be. I am also concerned about privacy issues but this might be a reasonable use of technology. If the tracking continued beyond the school grounds I would be more concerned.

Actually this story disturbs me just as much as it does COG. I don't like the idea of citizens being tracked. It opens really ugly doors and can take us down a path that creates the 1984 state.

This should be stopped in it's tracks before it's too late and others follow suit.
