Default Lord of the Rings movies - nitpik

These were 3 great movies back to back to back. Just watched them
for the 2nd time. Items to nitpik that may have made them even better:

- the guy who played Faramir should have been the one to play Aragon

- Gandalf the Grey turning into Gandalf the White was a stroke of genius. But
during his 1st appearance, they made his voice sound like Saruman to confuse the audience for a short time. Didn't need to do that.

- Arwen the Elf was perfect. So were the Elves

- Gimli as comic relief got boring

- Gandalf always stopping for a moment, to pronounce the future danger got boring

- Legolas pulling arrows out of his quiver like a machine got boring

- the Uruk-hai looked just like Mike Tyson did starting out

- it wouldn't be the same without the Hobbits. Just another King Arthur sword fight

I read The Hobbit in 2 days in the second grade. The Trilogy is one of the great works in the genre.
What's amazing about the movies? Not how much Peter Jackson got wrong, but how much he got right.
The ringwraiths? Goddam terrifying.
Gandalf? F'ing Amazing.
Sauron? Pretty damn good.
The cave trolls? Awesome!
The ballrog? Genius!
Gollum? Omg just blew me away.
The power of the ring came through loud n clear. Frodo's empathy for Gollum was on point. Jackson did an out-fucking standing job imo.

Vitaman, you have to read all 4 books. J.R.R.Tolkien is one of the great mythic writers of the 20th century. He is the Homer of our age.

Great movies, but the most amazing thing to me was Sir Christopher Lee at age 80 playing Saruman. He originally wanted to be Gandolf, but the producers had already approached Ian McKellen (59 at the time) for that, and after all, who best to play the big bad guy but the Brit who put Dracula and other stylish, suave horror characters on the movie map in the fifties and sixties?

By the way, Lee, born in 1922 and died at age 93 in 2015 after an incredible 70-year acting career, was the only participant in the project to have actually MET Tolkien, who passed in 1973 at 81, before several of the other stars of the films were even glimmers in the eyes of their parents. They met at a pub in Oxford by chance!

As film writer Scott Weinberg said, "Do you have kids? They know who Christopher Lee is. Are your grandparents still around? So do they. That's amazing. Such a cool guy too."
